We watched Storage Wars the last couple of nights when we ran across it by accident. My hubby LOVES auctions so he was very interested in the show. It bugs me when the other guys bid on them just to raise the prices on the other bidders when they don't really want the items in the first place!
Sometimes they do that just to intimidate the competition so they will leave..

I love how they will say something is worth $2500 and start acting like it's in their pocket already. Things ultimately are only worth what someone is willing to pay..
99% of the time, it's better to know who to sell what to, rather than have something you have no idea about. I used to do really well back in the 80's because we had a list of buyers. We knew what people were looking for and what they would pay and bought accordingly.

"Young with the Gun"
New, 4/13/2011, Reality
Jarrod and Barry take a trip to Riverside, where they are swarmed by fans eager to hear their expertise; Barry Weiss buys a trunk that he feels will yield great results; Jarrod and Brandi wage a bidding war for a unit filled with classic signs.
Rarely tho have I seen values I felt were spot-on.. usually either too low or much too high. Not to mention, they will say they have $10,000 worth of value in a storage unit but it's really only worth what you finally get for it.

I have watched a few different storage auction shows and found them interesting at first and even thought it might be a way to make a few extra bucks but then if all those lockers were filled with so many jewels why don’t the locker owners take the contents for themselves. I have the feeling there are many, many more misses to hit ratio than they lead you to believe. I also attended an auction one time as a young man. It was an old homestead estate settlement of some sort. I just had an overwhelming sad feeling that the family did not want to hold onto old family photographs and other memorabilia or the thought that they are losing everything because of hardship. I had to walk away and I never made a bid on anything. I still prefer Antiques Road show to any of them. In that show no one is being manipulated.

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....

Hardship is more likely the case where things are being auctioned from a storage locker.. lost a few lockers myself.. but I think a lot a reality shows "salt" those "finds".. I only believe a fraction of what I see on such shows..

I hate the way they total up their finds at the end.. "That's $200", "That's $1000".. it isn't $200 or $1000 until it's sold and most of what I see on this type of show seems to be way over-priced.
I've been watching it more lately since there's such crap on Nat Geo, History and Discovery.
I can't get over the feeling that it's all staged - kind of a knock off of Pawn Stars.

They say pawn Stars is staged as well.. a producer stops people at the door asking if they want to be on the show and gives them items to bring in.. somethings they bring in are a bit unbelievable as coming from the Vegas area..
I don't know where Barry gets his money but he throws away most of what he buys..
