Love the show tho I'm not too confident these guys know what they're buying half the time.. still a fun show to watch!
Watched this just last night and yes, I agree they do act like they have no idea what they are getting sometimes. At least last night they called in an expert on an old war bond to see what it was worth. The guy said it was worth in the ball park of 20,000 dollars and up even more than that maybe over 30,000 but the guy settled for 12,000 and a guitar. Let's get serious, I think if I had something worth that much I would at least try other outlets to sell it before giving it up for a lot less just because I wanted money for a guitar like he wanted. lol Strange.
Another guy came in with a home movie of a President from long ago..(sorry half asleep through this and can't remember which one). But they had no idea what it was worth and the guy wanted 95,000 for it. Now come on, if you think you have something that is worth this much money, would you really go to a Pawn Shop to sell it??? LOL Get real.
The film was of FDR and, you're right, that price was way off base (unless it showed something really unique)..
I also agree that if you have something really rare, consign it to a specialty auction house and get some real dough for the item..
Sometimes I think I watch the show just to get ticked off, lol!

Yes you are right (FDR). My brain took a freeze on the name just now. lol Anyways, I think I watch it when I do just to be amazed as to what is being shown as being brought in to be sold. Really hard to believe people have these items all these years and suddenly will take what they can get for them. I actually am not fond of pawn shops as you can guess so I'm surprise when I will watch this show.
Oh and on the flip side of people selling things that are so valuable for so much less cash then it's worth. How about the lady that came in with the old broken down, dented, rusty, lunch box without the thermos and turned down the money she was offered! lol I would have said, heck yeah. . show me any money and be happy I got something for it!
One thing I don't agree with is when they "restore"an old item to "mint"condition.. to me, an item isn't ever "mint" if it's been restored.. it's still an old item with a new paint job! It should never command premium prices IMHO..
I can see getting an old jukebox to work but any repairs or restoration should be noted.

I used to watch Pawn Stars but I always get annoyed with the guy who runs the shop. For some reason his laugh gives me the impression that he is a crook and is trying to take advantage of people. I know he's in business and is only trying to make money but I just have suspicions about people who laugh like he does when making a deal. I do like to see what the stuff is worth that people bring in though.
There is another similar show on called "Hardcore Pawn" that is much more realistic and not as tame as Pawn Stars. It is located in Detroit and they have huge guards that escort people that get irate or uncontrollable out the door. I like this show lots better.
I'm with you on that.. that laugh drives me up a wall.

Which one is this? The bald guy or the older guy? I think they are Dad and Son right? The older guy bugs me, I don't like how he is such a bad actor, you can tell he is very conscious of the camera, stiff, talks without moving his mouth. . . did I mention, boring? lol

The bald guy...the one who is the son of the old guy. I also don't like Chumley. I think he is just there for the ratings more or less. If we had an inept employee like him, he wouldn't be working for us for very long!
