Good Government and Milwaukee/Wisconsin used to go together
What happened? The county board voted itself excessive pensions, Norquist forgot what he went to school for...forgot himself entirely in office. Aldermen and the FBI?!
I had the pleasure of studying "Milwaukee, yesterday, today and tomorrow" with Frank Zeidler, a gentleman and scholar despite having been mayor of what was one of the 30 largest cities in the USA. Lately, the only leadership I've seen of note has been from the likes of ex-journalist, current business leader John Torinus.
We have to be able to govern ourselves better than we've done. The state that elected Lee Dreyfuss and gave the country Bob LaFollette and Thorstein Veblen, Bill Proxmire and Gaylord Nelson should be able to elect and monitor politicians that don't embarass us.
