Musicals of the 1940s: World War II changed the look of the Hollywood musical. Musicals of the 1940’s were pure escapism: lavish musical biographies, colorful period musicals, soldiers finding romance in far-off places, and the all-star musical where a studio put all their major stars in one film just to entertain the service men far away from home. Some of the most popular musical stars were from that era... Shirley Temple, Alice Faye, Deanna Durbin, Bing Crosby, Betty Grable, Dennis Morgan, and others. Let's not forget - Rogers and Astaire! No ration stamps will be needed to see these great musicals.
