I think it would be informative to have a list of Veterans Monuments/ Museums etc located within Wisconsin. If individuals have some in their towns they could contribute information on what it memorializes and directions on where to find it. I will start off with one in Douglas County.
The Richard Ira Bong WWII Heritage Center is located in Superior WI on Route 53 & 2 (Bay Street) immediately after the Whaleback Ship Monument on the right going North. It was started by his widow and family to honor Bong and all WWII heros. It houses a restored P-38 symbolizing the famous plane MARGE, his wife, and the 40 Japanese aircraft he shot down in the south pacific theater. Families have contrib-uted pictures and memorabilia of their family was heros. Bong was a local boy, born in Poplar and schooled in Superior and was well known by Superiorites during the War years. He was killed testing a prototype F-80 Shooting Star Jet at the Lockheed facility in Burbank before the was ended. The internet site is
