The Civil War is the only war that was fought on American soil by Americans. It is said to be the greatest war in American History.
It is estimated that 3 Million Americans fought in the war, 60,000 perished; some wounded in the battle, some by disease.
96,000 Wisconsin soldiers served in Civil War; losses were 12,216. More Wisconsin Lives were lost in the Civil War than World War I and II combined.
