Re: Ettner's (Ittner)
I don't quite understand if you are looking for the past or more recent history of the property.
I checked for the name "Ettner" or "Itnner" in my "History of Manitowoc County Wisconsin" book printed in 1912 but didn't find anything.
I did find this early reference to a "store or tavern" at the corner of Seventh and York Streets owned by a Peleg Grover: "Peleg Grover was of French descent and an Indian trader. He conducted his store at the corner of Seventh and York Streets. (The wooden structure, was in the 1850's, replaced by a three-story brick building). Indians coming to town would stop at his sstore over night, roll themselves up in their blankets and sleep on the floor. Glover, who was part Indian, had the same habit of retiring for the night, but slept on the table that answered for a counter. The Indians had a high regard for him and called him "father". He acted the part even to the extent of using the blacksnake (whip) on his red children whenever they became unruly in consequence of too much "fire water", which they managed to procure from his stock when he was asleep. Nothing else would they touch in the store, but the whiskey often proved too great a temptation for them."
