Hi Jeanne,
I was at a family funeral ( Franz/Bonfigt) on 7/24/08 and I have some info about Margaret Bonfigt that you may still be looking for. Martin Bonfigt married Margaretha Silbersack on Aug. 8 1851 at a Catholic Church in Mishicot, WI. They were married by priest J. Brunner and their witnesses were Peter Schafer and John Barth.
Margaret Bofigt might also be known as Mrs. Ursula Margaretha Bonfight. Mrs. Ursula Margaretha Bonfigt was one of the oldest settlers of Mishicot, WI. She was born on Oct. 10,1822 in Dundorf, Germany. In Calvary Cemetery, Two Rivers, WI there is a headstone with the following names on it: BONFIGT
Anna M. 1862-1890
Lena 1868 - 1898
Martin 1810-1885
Margaret 1822 - 1906
George 1859 - 1947
Anna 1871 - 1961
* Note that Margaret above has the same birth year as Mrs. Ursula Margaretha Bonfigt and that her name appears directly under Martin`s.
I believe that George was the son of Martin and Margaret and that Anna M., Lena and Anna may be his wives?? George married a Ann Breider on May 15,1883. One year after Anna M`s recorded death, George married a Carolina Binzow on Nov. 17 1891. Then he married Anna Kanzelberger on May 18, 1896 in the Two Rivers Catholic Church. George died in 1947 and his services were held at the St. Luke Catholic Church, in which he was a member of Holy Name Society of St. Luke`s Catholic Church. His pallbearers were members of the Franz and Bonfigt families.( George had 2 sons, 4 daughters, 18 children and 25 great grandchildren).
Now, what I am trying to figure out is if one of those above people mentioned are the parents of my great grandma Rosa (Bonfigt) Franz. Her husband was Herman Franz. It would seem to me that it`s possible that George was Rosa (Bonfigt) Franz`s father because why else would members of the Franz family be pallbearers at his funeral?? The only link between between the Bonfigt`s and Franz`s seems to be Rosa.
If you have any info that may be helpful to me, please post it here or send me an email at
wendzes@msn.com with BONFIGT in the subject line. Thank You!! Wendy
