Bonfigt / Ott

Martin Bonfigt married Pilomena Ott 1883 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Martin is named after his father Martin Bonfigt and his mother Margaret. I believe her maiden name is Silversack (Silbersack). I am trying to find out if Ursula Margaretha Bonfigt is one of the same.

Pilomena Ott father is Florian Ott and mother Albertina Ott. They came from Germany in 1869 as a family documented on Castle Garden website. Bernhard Ott traveled with them.

Florian moved to Oregon in 1890. Martin and Philomena moved to Oregon around 1900.

Hi Jeanne
Welcome to the Bubbler. Good luck in your search.
Have you headed to Maidson and visited the Historical Society?
Genealogy at the Wisconsin Historical Society
I have had a lot of luck going thru their archives.

I've also had some luck over at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: Family History ... The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—Church Educational System

Re: Bonfigt / Ott

Have you checked out the Manitowoc County, Wisconsin Genealogy website (2manitowoc.com)? It is probably one of the most extensive Wisconsin county genealogy websites out there.

Shari is adding to the site daily. (well almost)

Re: Bonfigt / Ott

I have been on all the sites that has been posted to me. I think I am at a point what I need to do is order the microfilms available to look at records or maybe even a trip to
Wisconsin. I know I have relatives in Wisconsin under the Bonfigt name in two rivers and in the surrounding areas. There are quite a few of them and the name is not a common name. I was hoping to maybe to connect online. Yesterday I connected online on the Ott family lineage and received a 100 year family history document. This took place in all of about 20 minutes. Technology yahoo! I have been waiting a long time for this connection. jeanne

Re: Bonfigt / Ott

I was born in Two Rivers and knew a few of the Bonfigts. One of them was a good friend of my father and drove the car that was waiting outside the church on my wedding day. It was a '56 Chevy. Unfortunately I lost touch with him many years ago.

I can ask my parents if he would have any family members online. I am not sure it is even the same family though.

I have access to all the censuses. Is there something specific I can look up for you or do you have census info already?

Re: Bonfigt / Ott

I have the census's. It would be nice to connect online before I start spending money. I have addresses for a few Bonfigt's in Two rivers. It really isn't a very big town. I think Kodiak Alaska has a bigger population than two rivers. jeanne

Re: Bonfigt / Ott

I would suggest going to 411.com and looking up the Bonfigt names listed in Manitowoc county and either start calling or write letters.

Also, try the site Manitowoc County, Wisconsin Genealogy : birth, death, cemetery, history, marriage and military which is one of the best genealogy sites out there and it happens to be on Manitowoc County.

Re: Bonfigt / Ott

Hello Jeanne,
My name is Wendy and I`m a descendant of Rose ( Rosa) Bonfigt... she was my great grandma. She married Herman Franz and they had 8 children. I was actually at their gravesite yesterday ( located in Mishicot), after attending a funeral for one of their daughters.... Gertrude Oswald ( my great Aunt Gertie). I`m in the process of tracking down my family history also.... right now I`m working on the surname of "Franz". As I come up with info. on the Bonfigt name, I will post it for you!

Re: Bonfigt / Ott

Hi Jeanne,
I was at a family funeral ( Franz/Bonfigt) on 7/24/08 and I have some info about Margaret Bonfigt that you may still be looking for. Martin Bonfigt married Margaretha Silbersack on Aug. 8 1851 at a Catholic Church in Mishicot, WI. They were married by priest J. Brunner and their witnesses were Peter Schafer and John Barth.
Margaret Bofigt might also be known as Mrs. Ursula Margaretha Bonfight. Mrs. Ursula Margaretha Bonfigt was one of the oldest settlers of Mishicot, WI. She was born on Oct. 10,1822 in Dundorf, Germany. In Calvary Cemetery, Two Rivers, WI there is a headstone with the following names on it: BONFIGT
Anna M. 1862-1890
Lena 1868 - 1898
Martin 1810-1885
Margaret 1822 - 1906
George 1859 - 1947
Anna 1871 - 1961
* Note that Margaret above has the same birth year as Mrs. Ursula Margaretha Bonfigt and that her name appears directly under Martin`s.

I believe that George was the son of Martin and Margaret and that Anna M., Lena and Anna may be his wives?? George married a Ann Breider on May 15,1883. One year after Anna M`s recorded death, George married a Carolina Binzow on Nov. 17 1891. Then he married Anna Kanzelberger on May 18, 1896 in the Two Rivers Catholic Church. George died in 1947 and his services were held at the St. Luke Catholic Church, in which he was a member of Holy Name Society of St. Luke`s Catholic Church. His pallbearers were members of the Franz and Bonfigt families.( George had 2 sons, 4 daughters, 18 children and 25 great grandchildren).
Now, what I am trying to figure out is if one of those above people mentioned are the parents of my great grandma Rosa (Bonfigt) Franz. Her husband was Herman Franz. It would seem to me that it`s possible that George was Rosa (Bonfigt) Franz`s father because why else would members of the Franz family be pallbearers at his funeral?? The only link between between the Bonfigt`s and Franz`s seems to be Rosa.
If you have any info that may be helpful to me, please post it here or send me an email at wendzes@msn.com with BONFIGT in the subject line. Thank You!! Wendy
