I am a big carry your heart on your sleeve type of person. I volunteered at the Salvation Army for over a year and then got a paid position there. That organization is really there to do some good. Unfortunately, their social workers are over worked, under paid and burnt out. There are many programs there including rent assistance, energy assistance, gas assistance, emergency food, emergency clothing, furniture, medicines and then there is the meals that are free, open to the public and serve anywhere from 1-100 people per meal.
There are PLENTY of places for a person to do good there and believe me they certainly can use the help!
