Kenosha County, created in 1850 from Racine County, is named for an Indian word for "place of the pike." Located in southeast Wisconsin, the county seat is Kenosha.

Natural Vegetation Mostly oak savanna, with a strip of sedge meadow through the center from north to south. Northeast: small area of sugar maple, basswood, and elm. East: prairie bluegrass and composites.
