Jefforson county marsh's...

Some of the oldest bucks hang out in some of the most remote, and dangourous places. Here are some pic's John Gilles took of me and him scouting a very remote area in Jefforson County last year of a little known public marsh... I dought there have been many white men that have ventured here. Even in winter, these areas of the marsh never quite freeze solid. The rotting vegitation manufactures heat, and keeps ice from freezeing. I wonder if this marsh has ever swallowed up a curius explorer. The areil veiw was about 8 or 10 years old. It showed some good canals going through the most remote areas a couple miles back in and we mapped out a travel path through the swamp and marsh that we felt we could navigate with a kayak with a few minor portages. We started early in the morning, hoping to be finished in the afternoon.
That would not be the case as we found the canal grown shut in many places and in a position where turning around would be extremly diffacult... We kept thinking if we could get a little farther we would break into larger waters. A large portion was silty muck with no water. This was very diffacult to paddle in. In one of these pics you can see the muck stuck on my hands. This is not water, we were actually paddling in muck and basicly getting nowhere inchs at a stroke.
Several times I had to balance at the front of the kayak and cut a path with my machette. The only deer sign we found, was of mature deer. This was no place for the pups. By the time we got out, it was night time, and we were miles from the truck. We hid the kayak and hitched a ride back to the truck. I can hardly wait to go back. I have a goal to get back to this area and either kill one on film, or film one being killed.... Hopefully not filming my own death in the bottomless gook.
We found this hidden paradice by studieing areil photo's of a swamp surrounded by private land where we have shined a few prehistoric Slobs as they were belched out of the hell marsh into the the crop feilds in the middle of darkness.

John Gilles... Still 1/2 dry! Whats up with that?
