A liesurely canoer's paradise, that's what the Black River is. I've done about a dozen floats on the Black River, including some 50-milers. Put in just below the dam, on the south side of Hwy 54, from the parking lot of the optometrist's shop there (they don't mind).
Then you're in for a treat. White sand beaches every mile or two, sometimes more frequently. Shallow water except for the channel on the outer bank that might run 4 to 10 feet deep, at least till you get 20 miles downriver and the Black River begins growing like, and toward, the Mississippi.
Good fishing. Lots of Eagles to see along the way. Awesome sand bluffs to climb. Wonderful, cold, spring water to drink (use a filtration kit, this stuff goes through cow pastures) along the way.
More about the river trips and towns along the way later. And the Golf Course on the banks of the Black River where you can do 18 holes with a cart, lunch and a drink for $15 (weekday mornings).
Jackson County has got miles and miles of great snowmobile trails (though I don't know how wonderful they are this winter - LoL). Now, I'm not normally a winter person by any means, but my hubby does manage to get me out of the house at least once in the winter for a day of sledding.
Bruce Mound has ski slopes and tubing, for those with less "racy" interests.
One of the local parks in Black River usually has an area flooded for ice skating. The same park has a great hill for sledding, also!!
And, I guess that's about the extent of what I can share, seeing as I am, as I mentioned, far from being a winter person - LoL.
Oh, I forgot to mention, also, for best people, that would be Keith's dad and myself (well, I don't know Keith's dad, but Keith seems like such a great guy, his dad must be pretty swell, also - LoL).
Refreshing this topic for all those new members in this county.
We want to hear what your county has to offer.
This is also a great way to find new places to visit for those who enjoy one to two day getaways.
