Antlerless Deer Tags

Remaining antlerless
deer tags go on sale noon Aug. 27

MADISON – Antlerless Deer Carcass Tags that allow deer hunters to shoot additional antlerless deer in designated deer management units (DMUs) will go on sale at noon, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005. Resident and non-resident hunters will have equal opportunity to purchase these permits, either at any license sales location or online.

Antlerless Deer Carcass Tags, also referred to as bonus antlerless permits, may be purchased at the rate of two per day per customer, at a cost of $12 for residents or $20 for non-residents, until each unit is sold out. A listing of the number of antlerless permits remaining in each deer management unit will be available at DNR Service Centers and on the DNR Web site by the time permits go on sale, or hunters may contact the DNR Customer Service and Licensing call center for more information at (608) 266-2621.

Antlerless Deer Carcass Tags issued for “regular” deer management units may only be used in the Deer Management Unit for which they were issued. Antlerless Deer Carcass Tags issued for ‘Zone T’ units may be used to tag an antlerless deer in the unit it was issued for or any other Zone T unit. Hunters will again receive one free Antlerless Deer Carcass Tag along with the purchase of a deer hunting license. The free antlerless tags may be used to tag an antlerless deer in any Zone T or CWD unit during any hunting season.

The Department of Natural Resources will begin mailing this season’s Hunter’s Choice Permits later this week . The permit is a postcard format. The use of this postcard permit is only authorized when in the hunter’s possession while hunting and the DNR recommends hunters keep this permit with their backtag. Hunters must present their Hunter’s Choice Permit during the registration of hunter’s choice deer. A Hunter's Choice permit is not an additional permit, but allows hunters to shoot an antlerless deer with their regular deer license.

Hunter’s can check their drawing results online at dnr.wi.gov. From the Online Services select Hunting & Fishing Licenses, then click the Permits button.

FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: DNR Customer Service - (608) 266-2621
