Another good article I wrote
Another Deerless Day in the Swamp
By Dan Infalt
I went to a very remote area of a swamp, where I scouted last winter, hoping to murder the buck that had left the tell tale signs that this was his bedroom. I took my gung ho son, "Rat Slayer" along just cause I felt I have not yet been punished enough during this life.
Anywho, we find that the briars, thorns and vines have made the area way too difficult for me to quietly sneak my 14 year old in there without alerting the world. So while I was wiping all the blood off of my arms from the briars and pulling the wasp stinger out from between my two fingers, I noticed that the creek running into the swamp was now just a dried up flat of black dirt...and its path went right past the tree I was planning on setting up in....Alright!!! We just walk right up the dry creek bed and straight up the tree. "Dan" I told myself, "You are a SUPER GENIUS"
Anywho, for some reason that dried up crispy type of quicksand has a delayed reaction and somehow knows when you are directly in the middle of the river bed. I started to panic as I felt the boys go under, but I was able to lie forward and spread out my upper body to keep from going down like the titanic. My face was being pressed into the muck by the weight of my treestand, climbing sticks and pack on my back. It was just then that I realized, "Hey, I'm not in trouble here!! My son the Rat Slayer is on shore and can go for help. But that was a short dream as I watched him run over to see if he could help. Somehow, someway, we crawled and pulled our way out of that hell.
It took Rat Slayer almost 20 minutes just to get his right boot back. We laid in the briars staring up at the sky in the sweat and the blood and the smelliest muck you have ever seen, which was now completely covering both our bodies. I realized, "Hey, somehow we crawled to safety, and ended up right under our tree. What luck!!!"
No, not luck, this is a mission from God, He would bring us a buck tonight. Heck, we still had almost 15 minutes of shooting light left! I scraped as much mud off as I could and quickly put up two stands. I was even able to make a hole in the ball of mud that I was sure was my camera, big enough to film thru. Now it was just sit and wait.
Suddenly at the edge of darkness we hear a big lone deer rise out of a bed 25 yards into the thick crap..... And head the other way.
It didn't take long for darkness to fall onto the swamp. This time we chose the briars and thorns and occasional wasp nest over the nice easy dry river bed. By the time we made it to the truck we both were covered in mud head to toe with bright red blood oozing out all over the place. And guess what.... The Sheriff was waiting for us...
"You boy'z are coming out of the woods a bit late, ain't ya?"
I swear, I didn't know "Bite me" could get you a disorderly ticket? Any who, when he got his spotlight on us he screamed, "GOOD GOD, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU TWO!!!!!"
After I talked him out of the ambulance call he was apologetic and said he wouldn't bother us anymore. Anywho.... Just another deerless day in the swamp!

Hunting is indeed not for every one. However, I choose to live the life I was created for. Deer and other wild game animals that God created for us get to live a pure and free life, unlike the cattle, chickens, and pigs that are fenced up born to die as food. The deer and other game I hunt, are the animals God put here for us to feed and clothe our familys. People who live outside the country seem to loose touch with reality.
Deer are prey animals that were put here for predators such as wolves, coyotes, and PEOPLE to use for food.
Animals harvested by todays hunters are taken way more humanly than by nature. Starvation, and being eaten and ripped apart by a pack of wolves is a little less humane than to have an arrow quikly dispatch the animal.
Without hunters, there would not be much wildlife for you to enjoy. We are the ones who fund the money used to buy land for the animals. We are the ones who donate millions to restore and protect habitat.
We are not the Blood thirsty savages you make us out to be. I rarely shoot, like most knowlagable hunters I sit, watch, observe, and take in the excitment of the wilds. I only take deer that will be eaten, and I wait for the older deer, both bucks and does. I am proud of my Native American heritage, and proud to be a hunter.
IF YOU DISLIKE HUNTING, PLEASE DON'T VISET A HUNTING FORUM. I don't go to "anti-hunting" sites and harrass the people there.

Its your life, you choose to kill innocent animals I choose not to. there is no reason to argue. I just stated a comment. you dont have to be rude.

Your the one who came to a hunting forum and became rude.
I happen to love all Gods creatures and even help run a sanctuary for abused and abandoned wildlife so it can be rehabilitated and released. Your new here so you probably don't realize that. I am going to ask you kindly to PLEASE stay off the hunting forum and leave us alone.

Excuse me buckmastr but here you are not to tell someone that simply has an opinion that they have to stay off this forum. On these forums everyone has a right to their thoughts as long as they can write it without hurting someone. And guess what? Shelbyy wasn't hurting anyone by stating a fact that he or she believed. I was not hurting anyone either by simply saying I could not shoot a deer. If anyone needs to stay off it is someone that won't let others say how they think. You can't bully people simply because you don't like what they think. Maybe you need to get a reality check and remember you are on an open forum.

I am not bully-ing anyone. Shelby is the one who came here to bully me. If I went on the Dog forum and made several posts about how all dogs should be put to sleep and they are all vicous killers and dog owners are bad people, I would be willing to bet you would have a problem with that even though its an open forum.

These are the comments. Simple. To the point. Just two people commenting on how they feel about hunting. We have every right to be on this forum reading the articles/comments etc. And we have the right to disagree or comment about how we feel. No name calling. Just two simple sentences from two different people.
Here is your comment back in what appears to be a very aggressive manner:
Hunting is indeed not for every one. However, I choose to live the life I was created for. Deer and other wild game animals that God created for us get to live a pure and free life, unlike the cattle, chickens, and pigs that are fenced up born to die as food. OK< just trying to make this simple for you. As you can see I bolded a few spots. Now, ou can see by two people making two simple one line statements you have now retorted back that PEOPLE WHO LIVE OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY SEEM TO LOOSE TOUCH WITH REALITY...as if your way is the only way or we are out of touch??
And " We are not the Blood thirsty savages you make us out to be" WOW, where and the heck do you get someone calling you a blood thirsty savage?? OK, that's way out there just because I don't like shooting deer nor does the other member. No one started calling names until you did. No one became aggressive until YOU did.
As far as being told to go to another forum. That is not up to you to say. Everyone has a right to go anywhere on this forum. It is an open forum. and until the other person attacks you as you have suggested than they have the right to check out this forum, AND leave a comment for or against what you write. If you don't like the fact that someone doesn't agree with your story that is just to bad. That is the risk you take when you come on an OPEN forum.

Yes, as Keith put it, ALWAYS be courteous! and stay with the subject at hand. I believe on this forum topic both was done by pk and shelbyy. You on the other hand became the aggressive member. Please refrain in the future.
And everyone else that may or may not agree with hunting. Please do so in a courteous manner.
And to make myself clear....I merely said that I could not shoot a deer except with a camera. I did not say anything about hunting. I merely made a statement about myself.
Keep it on the subject and keep it nice.

I would of expected more from you PK. I have always had respect for you and your threads until this. You would of been immeadiatly terminated for such conduct on my forum. I have always treated every one here with respect. Even now, dispite how your treating me. I very much so dislike alchohol and think alcholisim is the downfall of the US and alcahol should be outlawed... But you don't see me attacking the people on the home brew forum. I just don't go there. And you don't see me posting animal recipes on the Wildlife forum. I had no problem with your origanal post about not killing and using a camera. I too do alot of hunting with cameras. Its when people make statements about me "knowing Im wrong" and "I can't believe this is still legal" that they cross the line of conduct. I am a moderator on several forums and own one of the largest Wisconsin based hunting website / forum. No where else would that have ever been allowed.
Everything I said on this forum was and will remain above the line. I am the one who was attacked, not Shelby. I would really like to hear Keiths veiw of this matter. I went back and read every line I posted and cannot find anything below the line, aggressive, or Rude in any of MY comments.

Sorry most of what you are saying does not pretain to this forum topic. I am merely guessing but I think perhaps you and this other member has issues on yet another topic? I will check this out. In the mean time I will stand behind what I have observed on this topic only and that is the fact that besides myself, another member made a statement that was one sentence long and you took that and made alot out of it.
You mentioned my other threads, then you will see that from time to time I don't always agree with someone's way of thinking. But I don't jump all over them. I have been on the forum about mushrooms and made several comments about not liking them, I don't drink, I don't smoke of which I have commented against several people on these subjects. This is called an open forum. No name calling. Simply people discussing their views.
I believe that members have this right to say, oh I don't agree and then state a cordial comment as to why without fearing another member will take it way out of context and make it look as if the member is attacking.
That is what I saw here and I simply asked for everyone to respect and be polite. If that included you than so be it.
At this point I will personally turn this over to Keith as I am done with this subject.
thank you.

I love photographing deer and also hunting deer. It(hunting) most definitely is a way of life. It is a way that has been lost just in the last century, after thousands of years. I know for certain that it is burned inside me, and i can't imagine living without it. I feel bad for those who have lost the yearning to pursue their food.
People opposed to hunting definitely have their right to. As long as they aren't hippacrites, and say things like,"I don't kill any innocent creature". This is never true. The people who say such things are just blind to the fact. I'd much rather see a deer harvested, than see a deer killed by a car, or stressed to the limit surrounded by subdivisions. To these animals, the way death comes doesn't matter, whether with bow, gun, car, stress, lack of habitat, etc....the deer dies. The "innocent creature" dies. It is better to be utilized after a harvest, than to rot.
ALL HUMANS KILL GOD'S CREATURES, knowingly or unknowingly.
I agree 100% with Bukmastr.

Hi Dan,
I wouldn't worry about this too much. It's obvious what they are trying to start. Unfortunetly, hypocrisy runs rampid among these types of personalities. I wonder if they own any leather shoes, belts, eat any type of meat???...you get where I'm going. They pick and choose whats right and wrong and blast anyone the first chance they get.
Later,
Jon
