La Riviere horse park

For the La Riviere horse park in Prairie du Chein, WI:

A membership drive has been scheduled for Friday night, April
27, 2007, at the Administration Building in Prairie du Chien, from 6 – 9:00 pm.
Our hope is to have 1,000 members by the 14th of May. The dues are
$10/year and will assist the Rider's group in convincing the Prairie du Chien
City Council and Park Commission that this is a positive thing for the area.
This membership will give you a voice and keep you informed as details and
information become available on the happenings at the LaRiviere Equestrian Park.

Saturday, May 5th is the LaRiviere Park Open House – A demonstration is
scheduled at the Horse Park Shelter from 10 a.m. to Noon.

2007 Projects: One of the projects has been completed, the City street crew
fixed the crossing between the North and South camping area. Our group paid for
the materials.

Park Registration slips will be used this year. Everyone who camps will be
asked to fill one out and put one copy in the vehicle window and one in the drop
box. This will give us information on the number of people who are using the
park and the areas they are from. Unfortunately this is a necessary evil as
issues come up. We have to remember that this is a City Park and no other city
park in Prairie allows overnight camping. We have to work together with them
and as we demonstrate the actual numbers who are using the park facilities, it
will be in our favor to reinforce the fact that the horse riders are bringing a
lot of revenue to the City of Prairie du Chien.
For further information and membership forms, you may also contact Mary Lausted

Please pass the word and do what you can to assist in keeping this equestrian
park open to riders.

MESSAGE FROM LA RIVIERE RIDERS PRESIDENT, DEE BAKER:

At this time we are working with the City Council
to lease the park area. I have found that we could be eligible for trail
grants if we would have a lease that includes the trails. I will share
this will the park committee.

The process is long and slow. We attended a City Council meeting and
they encouraged us to answer insurance questions, and to continue as we
have in the past until the wording of the lease has been completed. I
appreciate everyone's concern that is why we are pursuing this endeavor.

If anyone you know has information regarding liability insurance for an
endeavor like this let me know. We need more clarity. I have the State
statue that says groups & etc. are not held liable for accidents and
other incidents. They were not happy with this.

We will be meeting with the park board again May 14 or 16, I will let
you know.

The LaRiviere Riders, Inc. is an organization that was formed to handle
the management of the park and riding trails, and promote the equestrian
activities that take place at the park. None of us want to lose the
park privileges.

We understand that the park is a large undertaking, and need to show
that our group is willing to manage the park in a positive manner. We
know the city cannot afford to do this.

The organization being a saddle club is a bonus. Being a member does not
mean that this will save our cause, but we do feel that by having
numbers, it shows that the park is a positive for our community.

I also feel that as a saddle club there will be options for trail rides
and other riding locations.

Mary Lausted our secretary had to resign. She has some family
commitments.

We will need to have a group meeting after the membership drive to
nominate someone else. This has taken more time than I ever imagined.
So if someone is interested some time is involved.

Sat. April 28, from 9-12 the group is planning to have a park clean up.
If anyone is interested bring work gloves, shovels, a weed wacker,
magnet on a stick to clean fire pits, they plan to cut some leaning
trees, and do some brush wacking.

May 5 the open house is set. There will be several stations for visitors
to stop at and pony rides and a petting critter for the kids. Buck board
rides maybe available for the adults.

Thanks Dee
