Are you itching to Ride? Despite the snow, the temperature brings our thoughts to saddling and going for a ride. Don't forget that "cabin fever" not only happens to people, it occurs in horses as well. About this time of year, bordedom affects horses too and as you are anticipating a ride with your favorite mount, your favorite mount might be looking forward to the same thing. Your horse may be a little too excited, although he might show you that he is misbehaving, he is ljust being a horse and loving the extra freedom.
If you love this time of year, don't forget to take your camera for those snow-covered tree lines and trails. There are zillions of opportunities for photos in wooded areas from the back of a horse. We all would like to see those pics.
OH so true!!! Went to the stables yesterday,,, all the horses were just a bundle of energy.
I always make sure I lunge before a ride,, just to get that excess energy(and any bucks) out before I get on.
Your suggestion of taking pictures gave me a thought. We need a photo album area on the bubbler! A place where members can post a pic or two or more that others may be interested in. I know we can have 3 on our profile, but a general location for pictures would be great!
Picturesque and tranquil is the area near my house. Snow covered rocks and ground untouched by human tracks along side a creek that never freezes remains continually virgin and pure. I love the view and have taken hundreds of photos to capture its beauty.
My horses are showing strong symptoms of cabin fever and boredom. They are picking on each other more often, they are beginning to chew on boards, and when they are brought into their stalls for grain feeding 2x/day, instead of single file, they are pushing each other out of the way to be first in the barn.
Our six horses are all QH & consist of 2 buckskins, 1 red dun, 2 palominos & 1 paint. I never cease to love spending time with them. Do you have an indoor riding area? Unfortunately, I do not.
Wish I did have an indoor area to ride. All the horses at the stables have a bad case of cabin fever too. Next time I get a chance to ride,, will have to lunge my mare for an hour LOL.
Yeah, it's that interim time of year where horses & people have that restlessness that can't really be pinpointed. We all need a project, but are not in the mood to do it. The other day when my 3 "P's" as I call them (Paint & Palominos) were feeling snorty & defiant, I twirled my leadrope & they ran thru the field of snow just to have an excuse - & as they turned & ran back, I did it again, so off they ran. When they came back, I saw in their body language they did not want to play the game again and I walked between them as they held their heads down to me. What a great feeling to walk among over 3,000 lbs of horses who say "that was fun, now feed me!". It is just another reinforcement in bonding with your animals.
