Two Wisconsin breweries are among the top 50 brewing companies in the United States, according to a ranking released Monday by the Colorado-based Brewers Association.
Not in the top 50, but they still produce some tasty brew.
Rowland's Calumet Brewery and Brew Pub has recently celebrated their 20th anniversary brewing beer.
20 years ago, Bob Rowland set out on a mission that was virtually unheard of in a small mid western town. He put Chilton on the map for craft beer enthusiasts, making his Brewery and Brew Pub a destination, rather just another small city in Wisconsin.
The Rowland began with tavern in Chilton, a historical building, the former fire house. He and his family began in the tavern business in 1983. As a youngster, he brewed beer with his father Having a rudimentary knowledge of brewing beer, and with some help from Roger Briess (of Briess Malting Co.), the Tavern League of Wisconsin, and other craft brewers around the state, Bob decided to start brewing his own beer.
Shortly after opening their brewery, Bob hosted the now infamous Wisconsin Brewers Fest. First held under a tent at Brant Wisconsin, in 1991. There were seven or eight brewers showcasing their various craft beers, with around 350 people attending. Today, the festival has grown to draw thousands from around the nation. Held at the Calumet County Fairgrounds on the 3rd Sunday in May. One of the largest beer festivals in the state.
"Not just content to have this small, unique brewery as their only contribution, the Rowland's took it one step further," said Kirby Nelson. They created the Wisconsin Microbrewers Fest, the first beer festival in the state to feature only Wisconsin brewed craft beer. And it was not to be just a beer tasting, but a gathering, toasting and celebrating being alive. And without a doubt it has become one of the premier beer festivals in the nation."
We'll let the eloquent Kirby Nelson, a friend of the family and brewmaster at Capital Brewing in Middleton have the last word.: "The Rowland's are classic Wisconsinites and pure Americana. We are fortunate that they joined our industry and have been an important part of the prominence small breweries are achieving in Wisconsin today."

I love home brewed beer but never made any myself but I recently got into making my own cheese. Any cheesemakers here? I couldn't find a cheesemaking thread here.
