"Watching" a topic/thread

I'm baaack... 8O

I posted on this thread http://www.thebubbler.com/modules.ph...47cec7a316c3b0
Sat. the 9th. This morning I visited it again finding two posts after mine and realized that I had not received an email notification of a reply after my post.

I looked in my 'profile' and the 'notify when watching a thread' is checked.
Also at the bottom of that particular thread the clickable "Stop watching this topic" shows up. So I am wondering why I am not getting 'notified' when a watched thread has a new reply.

Thanks, Judy :?

P.S. and no, I do not have an email 'filter' on. I get notices from other
forums, just not this forum 'all of a sudden'.

Judy, When did you stop receiving notifications? Are you signed up for any other notifications on the site and if so are you still receiving them?

Everyone else: Is anyone else noticing this and if so, when did you first notice that you weren't receiving notifications? Or, if you are still receiving them, please post that here so I can see where the difference might be.

I don't usually use that feature because I check the forum every week day as part of my regular maintenance of the site, but I've clicked the "notify me" on this thread so I can try to replicate the problem.

Crys, I have not posted in a long time so I cannot tell you when it may have started that I was not getting notification of a reply.

I found your above reply by checking back here; again not getting an email notice about your reply to this thread.

The only thing different on this end is that I am now on DSL instead of dial up and I doubt that would make a difference.

I am getting email notification from two other fourm that I frequent, but again, nothing from here....

I received the notification for your reply to the topic, so it's not something that broke the last time there was a server move or when we had that crash several months ago.

It may seem like an obvious one, but are you sure you have updated your email address in your forum profile? Click "Profile" above this post. The second field on your forum profile is email, so check that first. Notifications are being sent to whatever is in that field.

If that's correct, it may be that your provider has us blacklisted. We've had that problem with a few carriers, just because we have so many users who are all receiving practically identical notifications (like the forum notification) that their spam filter decided it must be mass emails instead of individual notices. Are you receiving other notices through the site? Try subscribing to one of the classifieds categories and post a test ad in that category to see if you get the notification from that. If you do receive it, then the problem is somewhere between the forum itself and your email; if you don't it may indicate a problem with our emails being filtered out by your isp.

Funny that this has been mentioned since the last maybe 4-5 days, I noticed that I did not always recieve a notice in my email on a few topics I have checked to watch, but some I did receive one. Just thought I was losing my mind or something and it really wasn't the forum. lol

But now that I see this I will start watching more closely and let you know if I miss a notice.

OK, everything has been working great again, until the last trivia posts from Greenbean. I was not notified so there for I didn't realize he had the correct answer, or that he put another question on. Neither post notifications came through to me.

This is what happens, everything will come through and then just one or two slips up, and then it seems great to go again. Hope that helps in your quest to see what is wrong.

As best I can tell with the tests Judy and I have been doing, the email is leaving our server just fine and getting stopped somewhere between our server and her email. Her isp says they don't do any filtering of email before it reaches their clients, so I'm not really sure where it's getting caught. I have been trying to use my home email address (to make sure it's going out the same way) to test it and haven't had a single dropped notification from the forums or the classifieds.

pk - who do you get your email through? Is there any kind of filtering of your email? If so, individual notifications may simply be caught as though they were spam. If not, then you may be having the same issue she is, with it being stopped by a service provider somewhere between your email provider and our host.

I don't know that there's anything we can do about that. I'll keep looking to see if I can find anything at our end that we can do, but we can't control other providers, so unfortunately I don't think there's really a whole lot I can do to fix it.

Judy - it may be worth starting a temporary yahoo or hotmail account and changing your email address here so it points to that. Most of your notifications will go straight to the "bulk mail" folder, but you should still receive them. That would tell us if it's just your account that's affected or if it's your email provider.
