Members have reported to me about troubles up loading new pictures into their profile.
I had not had pics to up load until today to test.
I attempted to up load new photos this morning and had the same problem as other members are having.
The 1st picture took but the other two fail to appear. I deleted my cookies and cleared my cache.
The two picture that appeared when I updated are pictures from a previous sets done late summer. I had no pictures on my profile for 3 weeks now and now when I update, 2 of last two pics appear from who knows where?
Any ideas.....
Earl
If pics from a few weeks ago suddenly showed up, it's probably to do with the fact that the backup was a week or so old, as I mentioned in the thread about the server failure.
I haven't had any other reports yet of problems with uploading photos but I'll do some tests to see if I can get it to fail. If you are receiving an error message, please use the contact us form to send us a copy of them or to report any other problems.
I have a non-admin user account I use for testing, and I didn't have any problems changing my pictures. I thought maybe there were some file permissions set wrong but if so I wouldn't have been able to change mine either.
Make sure you do not have the "Use previously uploaded pictures" option checked. If it is, the program will disregard any new pictures and keep the old ones.
I show three pictures uploaded at 4:47 pm server time yesterday under your user number, so the two old ones showing up is because they were uploaded at the same time, not because of the server going down.
pk-
I don't show any pics on the server for you. Please try uploading again and let me know if you receive any error and any other behavior it exhibits. Please make sure that the "Use previously uploaded pictures" is not checked and that the files are not only under 600K but under 1024 pixels wide/tall. The limit is technically memory, but some users have had problems with images that were large pixel-wise but still under 600K.
Everyone-
If you are having problems with any part of the site, you need to use the Contact Us form if you want it resolved. That sends an email that goes to the whole of the technical staff. You can also post here. Asking other users for help is fine, but reporting problems to other users without sending them to the technical staff means that the technical staff doesn't know about the problem and therefore cannot fix it.
Crys,
This problem had been mentioned to me many times even before the crash and has no bearing on theBubblers recent crash.
I just had no time to attempt it myself.
Users have contacted Keith but the problem still occurs.
I uploaded 3 new photo with the box unchecked and only one uploads new,
I had NO previous photos in my profile for 3 weeks now.
???
2 old photo were pulled into my profile when I updated?
Earl, according to the server, you uploaded three pictures. That is why there are three pictures in your profile.
I am unable to cause the upload to upload extra pictures unless they are selected in the "Your Info" page, in Safari or Firefox on Mac, or IE6 or Firefox in XP. Pictures are deleted from the server once a week when they are not directly linked to in a profile. Your pictures were deleted last week if they were not in your profile (before the backup we restored from). The only way they can be there now is if you uploaded them. If you're not receiving an error message, and you are 100% positive that you didn't upload them, I'm afraid I have no way to troubleshoot this problem, as I can't duplicate it or get more information on it.
I will reiterate that if people are having problems with the site, they need to use the contact form to notify the technical staff, which currently consists mostly of me with some help from mweinand. Reporting problems to anyone else may get your problem fixed, but it also may not eventually make its way to us.
The only problems we've run into with people having problems uploading is that they forget to uncheck the "Use previous pictures" option, or do uncheck it and then accidentally end up deleting their pictures, and that they are sometimes trying to use wildly too-large pictures.
Crys,
I will let all of those who contacted me and let them know this above info.
I will attempt to upload after I post this.
I will keep track of my progress and forward it to you.
Thanks for your help.
Earl
Well our beloved cat's pic is on my page now! I think I was trying to put a picture on that was to large and I did not notice the box I had to uncheck. I Resized using shrinkpictures.com, worked great.
pk- would you recommend shrinkpictures.com? We have a recommendation in our FAQ for a program that Keith found and that other users have had good results with, but I was looking to expand the recommendations so that there'd be something for everyone.
Do you use Firefox or another browser that has a logging function built in? If so, could you take a look at your javascript/firebug and error logs and include any errors/problems that were logged at the same time as you reproduce the uploading error?
Also, I was thinking that if the form info was cached, even if you cleared it, if you're in Explorer it doesn't always really clear, so the options to upload those two particular pictures in particular locations may have been cached so that when you hit submit, the browser was sent the command to upload all three. That shouldn't have been the case if you'd cleared it and restarted the computer at any point between, but I've had problems with IE6 holding onto a cached copy of a css file for several restarts after it was supposedly cleared (which makes trying to make websites work in IE6 a real pain, I might add), so it might theoretically do the same with forms.
I was trying to put fall pics on by 'pk' on another forum and simply could not get it to work until the admin suggested I check out shrinkpictures.com. I did, and it worked great for me. It offers several ways to resize your photos as well as help with avitars.
Using this method I was able to place a picture on my personal section here but still I have yet to understand how to put a picture on in the comment sections. I've put on whole photo albums, and added pics on other sites and each one it seems you have to do something different... so I'm sure it is something simple that I'm not doing correctly here so any hints would be great.
By "comment sections", do you mean in the forum? Or in the custom corner on your profile page? Unfortunately, that area really only lets you put text in right now. Adding more styling to that, maybe even pictures, is on my list of improvements but its fairly low right now. When it was set up, disallowing anything but simple text was the only sure way to protect against malicious attempts to use that to try to hack into the site, but there are more things we can do now that will still allow users to make their custom corner spiffier; I just haven't had a chance to do any of those things yet.
For the forums, to be honest, I'm not sure quite why your pictures aren't showing up when you link to them in the forum. The only thing I can think is that there must be a block against hotlinking in the blogger code somewhere. If you've got pictures saved somewhere else (like maybe your profile pictures here?), you might try posting them to see if they show up or not. It looked to me like you were posting that picture correctly over in the Phocations thread; that's why I think it must be something in the blogger code or a setting on their server.
I can update my profile in the forum section but can not update my profile in the member profile by clicking "my info" it just refreshes.
I would update what I want to update in the forum section but it does not allow you to upload your pics there.
Also page load time for "my info" takes over 30 sec's to load.
Any ideas???
The "My Info" page seems to be broken at the moment. We're trying to find the problem, because no recent changes were made to that page, so it must be something else that's causing it not to load. It just takes you back to Your Account. We noticed the problem yesterday and as best I can tell, yesterday was the first day there was a problem with it (which is an important distinction...) so we're hoping to get it fixed today or tomorrow, provided we can find the problem.
I was going to post something about it this morning to let people know, but I guess this post takes care of that
