If you go into your forum profile (directly above this post, NOT the "Your Info" on your user page), you can reset it the same way you set it in the first place. Near the bottom of that page is the space where you can link to the image.
There's an issue with the "Your Info" changing the link to avatars when new info is saved, even if the avatar is unchanged. I even know exactly what line of code is the problem... I tried to fix it and ended up making it worse (because it affected EVERY user's avatar not just the person making changes!!) so I put it back to the normal problem and I'm waiting for the new forum software because we'll have to rewrite the better part of the user page to incorporate it anyway. I'm not sure who wrote the current "Your Info" page, but really, it needs to be redone from scratch. I figure that is part of upgrading the forum software.
The _forum_ profile page, however, works just fine. If you're having trouble with either of the uploads, try linking to an "offsite" avatar. It doesn't really have to be offsite; you can link to one of the three pictures in your user page. It just needs to have a complete url to the picture.
