Re: Deck of Cards Workout

The concept behind this work-out is very simple. Do a series of exercies based on a deck of cards. For example, do burpees for all Hearts, jump rope for all Diamonds, plyometric push-ups for Spades and do star jumps for Clubs. For example for a 10 of Hearts I do 10 burpees, a 3 of Hearts of do 3 burpees, etc. The exercises can be simple to complex, you select the exercises and control the level of difficulty. I also like that you can customize the workout to fit your needs. If you are looking for cardio, add more cardio. If you are looking for tone/strength add plyometrics. You decide.

Re: Deck of Cards Workout

ok I did not know what a burpee was until I did a search for it. I found a very healthy young lady doing them on you tube and after ten reps she was panting, I would be dead and the floor boards would never be the same again.
I think I will stay with the treadmill at 0.5 miles per hour and skip the deck of cards routine. thank you

Re: Deck of Cards Workout

You don't have to do burpees. The nice thing about the Deck of Cards workout is you can tailor it to your fitness condition and yet still push yourself a little.

Instead of doing burpees, do push-ups or jumping jacks.

Re: Deck of Cards Workout

Burpees aren't the easiest exercise, but there's lots of exercises that you can pick from.

I found a fitness magazine that did the exercises 2 at a time alternating until you do 3 sets of each.

First do ten of exercise A, then ten of exercise B, ten of A, ten of B, ten of A, ten of B.

Next do ten of exercise C, then ten of exercise D, ten of C, ten of D and so on.

It had you do a total of 8 different exercises with some doing both a left side and right side of the body (which would make one set of exercise actually 20). I've done this workout and to keep from getting bored, I'll add in other exercises doing them in sets of 10 alternating with another exercise.

I get bored really easy with indoor exercise so I have to have variety. Probably the same idea behind the deck of cards exercise.

Great idea. If you keep up the pace and limit the resting between sets to 30 seconds you get a good cardio workout as well.

Great ideas. Anyone else?

Re: Deck of Cards Workout

I'm just waiting for it to warm up outside so I can ride my bike and go for walks. That's what I prefer. So much more refreshing than indoor exercise.

Thanks for the idea! Very worthy youtube search.

Burpees look horrible for the knees unless you're already thin.

I've see 300+ lb men and women doing burpees. As always though I would suggest consulting a doctor before you do any exercise.
