I know my youngest brother had allergies to wheat products so bad as a kid, he actually broke out into bloody sores from it.. thankfully, he outgrew it.
My youngest son is allergic to some types of WELL WATER.
He went on a camping trip and found this out. They were lucky they had bottle water with them. But he even broke out when taking a shower with the water. Strange. I'm guessing it may have something to do with the sulfur in the water. They said it was pretty strong where they were camping.
As a kid, I don't remember people having any food allergies, now it seems like every other person has an allergy. I heard of someone that was allergic to cinnamon and she worked at a Cinnabon. Too funny. I know someone allergic to fennel seeds, like that in Italian sausage. I know someone that allergic to coconut oil which is in lots of processed foods.
My husband is slightly allergic to onions, especially raw ones. He even has problems with some beers and the hops stuffing him up.
Peanut butter and dairy seem to be very common. I've heard of shellfish allergies.
I don't have any seasonal or food allergies, but I have been allergic to aspirin since I was a child. If I take anything aspirin based, I break out in hives and itch like the dickens! A couple years ago, my doctor decided that I had probably outgrown that allergy and he prescribed Naproxen for my arthritis. Needless to say, he was wrong and I got some terrible hives after taking it for two days. That was unfortunate since it helped my arthritis so much that I could physically run up and down the stairs easily and without any pain. Darn it all. Last month, the doctor told me to take some Aleve for the pain in my foot from the heal spurs and I had to remind him that Aleve is just an over the counter form of Naproxen! I swear some of those doctors don't even look at your charts when you go there! I guess that's why they say doctor's are just "practicing" medicine.

My nephew was also like that. He was allergic to so many things when he was a baby and his poor little body was always covered in sores. My sister had to put socks on his hands because he would scratch his sores until they would bleed. They later found out that he was allergic to milk products among other things so she ended up having to put him on goats milk after that. He eventually out grew most of his allergies but not until he was in his mid twenties.

Tell me about it. When hubby was in the hospital it was the nurses that weren't reading the chart. I had to remind a couple of them to be careful about how they handled him because his shoulder was broken. Then how many of them I had to tell them to stick the ear thermometer in his other ear. They assumed because the side of his head that he had surgery on was the side that he hit his head on, but it wasn't. They kept trying to stick it in the ear that was bleeding at the accident. Then he'd be telling them it hurt and pushing away. I said that's because it's probably really tender yet.
You would think they never heard of this type of head injury even though it's very common to hit one side of the head and have bleeding on the opposite side when the brain gets slammed around. There's even a word for it. Geez, even I knew about that type of injury and I'm no nurse.
I don't think there were as many allergies, but with all the garbage we add to food, then more pesticides and herbicides, and bioengineering of plants and animals, it's no wonder we have so many health problems. Sure we can grow disease and pest resistant plants and have chicken that are plump, but what does this do to our bodies? No wonder why more people are going organic. There's a huge market for that.
