If you are overweight or obese, you may want to lose weight to look and feel your best. But how often do you think about how your weight affects your health? Though you know in theory that carrying around extra pounds can be harmful, you may not know just how dangerous it can be.

I gained an ounce an hour for over a month-and-a-half when I quit smoking. After 6 years, started smoking again...but dropped about 70# ! Had to work at the last half, hitting the gym, minding the portions and most unfortunately...drinking less beer.
When my son was in Kindergarten I lost like 75 pounds in 5 months. I went from 'fluffy' to 'scrawny'. I kept getting people coming up to me asking if I was 'sick'. They all treated me like I was dying or something. lol My own daughter kept telling me that I had no butt.
Well I now have a 'butt' again! lol
Anyways, it really was easy once I put my mind to it. I simply avoided the wrong foods, didn't over indulge, didn't eat late at night, and avoided alot of 'fats'. Instead of whole milk, I drank skim, grabbed lite or fat free things when making a choice of foods, more salads, and plenty of fruit and drinking water instead of pop. It just fell off.
Now if I could just get back into that mind set again.
I removed the bad from my life and replaced it with Good
Let's see...veggies taste bad and desserts taste good. So far your diet hasn't worked for me. LOL
From what I've read a person shouldn't really think of food as being good or bad. It's about how much and how often you have it. Of course I can't give up french fries, but I can live with eating a smaller portion or less often. Otherwise denial will only make me want french fries more.
I did manage to give up drinking diet soda during the week and only have it on weekends now when I go out. That much nutrasweet isn't good for anyone. I don't need to be filling myself with formaldehyde. My teeth can do without their daily acid wash, too.
Saw a PBS special recently on four plants that have captured the imagination of humans and have been cultivated like crazy, spreading their dominance because they particularly appealed to us.
Apples were one of the plants. For millenia "sweet" has been a signal to humans that here are calories we need for survival. Eat them up!
Now we have an abundance of sweets, on top of more protein and starch than we need for survival. Our bodies have been hard-wired for millenia to get all the calories we can because it was once a matter of survival.

That comes to about 4 pounds a week. Too fast to lose weight. They recommend 1-2 pounds a week. It's slow, but at least it's more likely to stay off, plus it's better for your health.

If it was missing before, what did you sit on?

Some diet myths here. There aren't wrong foods, only wrong portions. Yes, some food is healthier than others, but avoiding french fries or pizza when you love them will not work in the long run. Be sure to include them occasionally and not to overdo it on the portions.
Eating late at night has got to be the most common diet myth. Calories are calories and it doesn't matter what time of day you eat them. It's just that most people choose fattening foods to eat late at night. Ever see anyone grab a salad late at night to munch on? Me either.
You still need to eat fat daily in your diet, just need healthy fats, not the fat found in a bag of Cheetos. A scoop of Crisco on your veggies isn't recommended either.
I look at weight gain and loss in terms of bowling balls...
Most everyone knows how heavy a bowling ball is. 16 pounds. Imagine carrying a couple or a few of those around. Well, if you're carrying an extra 30 or 40 pounds, that's basically what you're doing.
My bowling balls are killing me!! I need to drop some , just not on my toes!

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....

I quit drinking Coke at work. I used to drink it all day - one in the morning, one (usually big) at lunch plus the free refill, and one in then afternoon. Now I drink coffee at work for my caffeine.
I also try to limit portions. As a realist, I KNOW I can't change what I eat. I really like good food. But just because the restaurant brings a giant portion doesn't mean I have to eat it all.
By the way, when I was in my 20's, I actually worked out a LOT and drank protein drinks to try and GAIN weight. Funny, huh?

Feels good being down 4 or 5 bowling balls.

I always say bags of flour. You sure wouldn't want to lug around several bags of that all day.
