Cherries Might Ease Pain

Great article on Chrerries easing arthritis pain. They have the same propertieis that anti inflammatory meds do...plus a great benefit to eating cherries for pain is there are no side effects like you get from the OTC meds or perscribed meds.

Quote:
Cherries Might Ease Arthritis Pain

More than 20 million Americans have arthritis and relief from the pain may be growing on trees.

Kim Adair fights a daily battle with the aches and pains of arthritis.
"With 10 being the worst, I would say it's about a 7 or 8," said Adair.
But she recently found relief in a study at Baylor on the pain-relieving properties of cherries.

"They have a lot of the same properties that common anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen or naproxen will have," said Dr. John Cush, a rheumatologist.

Adair took gel caps containing cherry extract.
"I think about maybe three months, I didn't notice any pain at all," Adair said.
"Overall, about five out of six patients did very well in the study," Cush said.
Cherries: A Natural Alternative

As soon as the study ended and Adair stopped taking the gel caps her aches and pains returned.

So, she started eating cherries and drinking cherry juice.

Re: Cherries Might Ease Pain

20 Cherries a day keeps the doctor away!

Fresh, tart cherries seem to contain a particularly effective variety of anthocyanins, which are also known to exhibit antioxidant activity.

Re: Cherries Might Ease Pain

The benefits of tart cherries are found in fresh, frozen, canned or juice forms of cherries. High levels of anthocyanins are found in both tart and sweet cherries

Tart cherries are very rich sources of anthocyanins whereas sweet cherries have lower amounts

Montmorency and Balaton varieties are 2 kinds of Tart Cherries

Tart cherries are also one of the only natural food sources of the hormone melatonin, which is a potent antioxidant with immunomodulating properties

Tart cherries contain phenolic compounds that protect against neurodegeneration

Tart cherries are also rich in vitamin C, and they provide potassium, magnesium, iron, folate, and fiber

Re: Cherries Might Ease Pain

Cherries are particularly beneficial in reducing the risk of colon cancer

Some studies show that cherries also reduced the growth of breast cancer cells.

LONG LIVE PIE...VIVA LA PIE

I use cherry juice to ease the pain of gout. 6oz. daily does the trick. I either but it from the chiropractor, or I order it from Cherry Republic.
www.cherryrepublic.com - World Headquarters for All Things Cherry! - dried cherries, chocolate covered dried cherries, cherry salsa, cherry nutmix, cherry juice, cherry concentrate, gourmet cherry jams and cherry gifts! Glen Arbor Traverse City

Those folks know all about cherries.

Re: Cherries Might Ease Pain

Even without overdoing it at the gym this last month, I've had a severely aching shoulder for a few days. Cherries sounds a lot better than drugs ~ as soon as I can get to the store, I'm there with the cherries!

Regards,
Keith

Cherry Pie?
I'm all over that medication regime.
Of course, cherries are not a cure for arthritis, only a temporary relief from the pain that goes with it.

Certainly cherry pie can't hurt the condition. I'm thinking there is enough cherry in each slice of Cherry Pie to be considered a dose. Keep that in mind when you have a slice of Cherry Pie. Try not to overdose when you are treating your ailments with Cherry Pie.

Re: Cherries Might Ease Pain

As with most natural remedies, I wonder how many cherries you actually have to eat to elicit any effect?

The last time I went to buy some cherries, I had to take out a small loan! And to think we had acres of cherry trees on our farm as a kid.

Gout is a form of arthritis. Cherries are loaded with Omega-3 anti-oxidants.
