Wisconsin's communicable disease list changes
Scratch cat scratch disease off the list of illnesses doctors must report to the state — and add SARS, childhood flu deaths and LCMV, a rodent virus that has killed organ transplant recipients, including four patients in Wisconsin.
Also new on the list: exotic diseases such as monkeypox. Wisconsin landed in the national spotlight four years ago after dozens of residents contracted the rash-bearing condition from pet prairie dogs.
The changes to the state's communicable disease reporting system are scheduled to take place early next year. They are among several alterations to the list of about 80 diseases doctors must report.
