I am hoping someone can help one of my researchers....
Hello, I live in Kingsford, MI what I would like is some information on the circle and star in the middle on farm barns. I already know that about the Belgian American brick layers trademark on brick homes that they built.I should also mention the circles are white. Some years ago I was on a tour in the Wis area around Algoma and was told about this , but I forgot. Now in Brown Co I know
some people who have this on their barn and they do not know the history of it. The tour I was on was on Belgian places, Yes I am a Belgian and am very interested in Belgian history.I thank you for you time and will be pleased to hear from you.
I did a "Google" search on "Pentagrams on Barns", and this is what I found: Note should also be made to the "barn star", a decorative illustration, often in the shape of a five-pointed star but occasionally in a circular "wagon wheel" style, used to adorn barns. Originally, and most commonly, seen in German and German-American farming communities, claims of the symbol's origins as a warding sign are questionable.
It might be a trademark of the builder. A Freemason thing. Check the link for more information.

We have some barns in our area that still have advertising signs painted on them. It must have been common at one time for business owners to pay the farmer for the use of the barn wall and to paint an advertisement on it for their business or products. When we were first married we used to live next door to a barn that had a "Midas Flour" sign painted on the end. It has since faded to almost unreadable now but there are still many other signs on farmer's barns around. I also saw a silo awhile back that had a beer bottle painted on it advertising a beer company.
