Lao, Hmong, American memorial dedicated

'Beautiful, moving' ceremony attended by dignitaries, veterans
By Eric LaRose
Sheboygan Press staff

 Vang Lee, 48, of Sheboygan was 13 when he was recruited for a Special Guerrilla Unit in the Vietnam War. He said he remembers very little about his time as a soldier, but he's happy people are remembering the sacrifice he and thousands of other Hmong soldiers made.

It's great to see that they're doing this.

I lived just outside Sheboygan a few years ago and there's really a lot of discrimination against the Hmong and other southeast Asians (and their descendents) there. People who would smack someone else for telling a racist African-American or Native American joke saw no problem telling racist Hmong jokes. I really couldn't understand that. Kids would point at them on the street and I once saw someone throw a milkshake out of their car at an Asian mother pushing a stroller (or Asian-American, I didn't know the woman so I don't know which she was).

So it's good to see that the City is doing something to commemorate their sacrifices for a change.
