Wisconsin's Work Force Consists Of Two Percent Undocumented Immigrants
The Badger State's undocumented immigrants account for up to two percent  of Wisconsin's 5.5 million residents as indicated from census polls .
The Pew Hispanic Center says the state has 75,000 to 115,000 illegal immigrants. The estimate puts Wisconsin at number 21 among states in terms of immigrant population.
These undocumented immigrants in Wisconsin tend to work in hotels, cleaning services, canning or meat industries, farms, construction, landscaping, home repair and roofing. Most are from Mexico but there are others from other countries as well.
Experts say the state's proximity to Chicago has driven a recent increase in the population. Chicago is a major immigration destination.

Kohl supports 'heavy' penalties for employers hiring illegal immigrants

MANITOWOC — Sen. Herb Kohl said Friday employers who hire illegal immigrants should go to jail on a second offense.
"Employers should be penalized heavily for employing illegals," Kohl told an audience attending the AFL-CIO Wisconsin Building Trades Conference at the Holiday Inn. His stance drew loud applause from about 50 union officials.

Why give them another chance...they know the workers are undocumented going in. They broke the law from the gitgo.
Landlords that rent to illegal aliens should also be prosecuted.
Or else, they can give me all there money, and other valuables, then go home.

There is a reason that employers use this group of people.
"THEY WORK CHEAP"
so how will they aquire "money, and other valuables"?
Anyone who hires like this has no regard for HUMAN DECANCY and QUAILTY OF LIFE BEYOND THEIR OWN NOSE!!!!!!!!
I say when these employers are discovered, discontinue using their products or services!!!
It's one of the six thousand reasons I won't shop at WalMart. The only reason they don't lock their mostly illegal immigrant cleaning crews in at night anymore is because they got taken to court because it's against OSHA fire regulations. Maybe if you paid people, illegal or not, a living wage you wouldn't have to worry about them running to escape their little cage. They're still pushed like slaves, guarded like prisoners, and barely paid enough to feed themselves, let alone their family. And the govt won't do anything to stop it.
The real problem is corporate person-hood. If we stopped letting executives and share-holders escape personal punishment for their reprehensible actions because it's "in the name of the company" you'd see a change in corporate policy real fast. Every upper-level executive whose company hires illegal immigrants or commits ANY other crime should be held PERSONALLY responsible.
I too agree with the sentiments here. As some of you may know, I'm a department manager in a large manufacturing company. We are a union shop and pay decent wages.
Hiring illegals for the cheap wage is the lazy to manage. Instead of getting competitive, trimming overhead, shopping for materials or simply staying productive, they take the easy way out and look for the cheap wage.
We've found that customer service is paramount to bringing in and keeping customers even at a higher cost than some competition. Maybe the big chains should think of that.
Trim the fat and you can afford to pay a decent wage.

Yeah, cuz that's going to stop someone trying to go to a place where they will be able to at least make enough to buy food and fleeing a place where they are starving.
This is just another example of bad management practices. Border Security says "This is a waste of money" and Congress says "What do you know about border security? This is a great idea!"
Ooooh, a fence! I can't even keep the rabbits out of my yard with a fence. For over a billion dollars, that sucker should be 6 foot thick brick and mortar with manned gun towers every half-mile!

Is that fence constructed to keep outsiders from coming in or us going out?
I saw one of those political ads the other day that says it cost us $2,700 for each illegal alien. so if you follow that thinking
1.2 billion /$2,700 = 444,444 illegal aliens to break even on the fence cost.
I have no idea how many do cross over in a year but if you think a half million was not caught how many do they catch? What is the population of mexico? If they all come across who will work in their factories?
Will Mexico have to build fences to keep out illegals aliens from even less fortuate countries than theirs?
Where will this all madness stop?
I hope no one takes "a fence" my comments.
and if they do please place it on one of our un-protected borders.
Thank You
Is that fence constructed to keep outsiders from coming in or us going out?
These days, you never know.
If it's meant to keep us in, it's just as ineffective. Chain link fences are pretty easy to cut through or climb over. Give me some snips and a minute of inattention...
Besides, they just made it legal to round us up like cattle and hold us without trial or access to a lawyer indefinitely, without just cause (sorry, "they support the unnamed amorphous 'enemy' because I say they do!" doesn't constitute 'just cause' to me). Who needs a fence?

This is a partial transcript from "The O'Reilly Factor," January 4, 2007, that has been edited for clarity.
Watch "The O'Reilly Factor" weeknights at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET and listen to the "Radio Factor!"
BILL O'REILLY, HOST: Now for the "Top Story" tonight. How could something like this happen in northern Wisconsin. Joining us, a former D.A. of Waukesha County Paul Bucher, and from Washington, FOX News criminal analyst Detective Rod Wheeler, who has been talking to local cops. What did you find out about the case, detective?
ROD WHEELER, FOX NEWS CRIMINAL ANALYST: Bill, if there ever was an abomination of justice this is exactly what that is. I cannot believe for the life of me, and nor can the police up there, the sheriff's office that I spoke with today, they were just as stunned because of the fact that it was nothing that they could really do. And you know, Bill, we've talked about this several times before.
Local law enforcement, their hands are tied in terms of what they can do. They must operate by the orders of the court. And when this judge or this commissioner up in Wisconsin let this guy walk, the cops were livid about it and they had every right to be so.
O'REILLY: Now, Mr. Bucher, maybe you can explain, this is the judge, Atkinson. He didn't make the bail assignment. OK? A man named, as I said, Lawrence Gazley, a commissioner made the bail assignment. Couldn't the judge say that's ridiculous. You don't give an illegal alien who is a flight risk $5,000 bond when he is charged with a felony child sexual assault. Couldn't the judge have stepped in here?
PAUL BUCHER, FORMER WISCONSIN PROSECUTOR: Sure, Bill. And I'm sure that's what he is saying today. But he probably is hearing about it just as we heard about it. The judge really doesn't see the case until the next court date. So this is a court commissioner. This is sort of the entry into the system.
This is a person that is not even elected. Court commissioners are appointed. So this person made the decision. They're not held responsible for it. The judge I'm sure is livid. But now the judge is...
O'REILLY: I don't know if he is livid or not. I mean, look. You are telling me this is some low level bureaucrat, not elected, I guess he has to be an attorney correct, this guy?
BUCHER: That's correct. Right.
O'REILLY: He is there. He is a bureaucrat. All the people who the sheriff's office arrests in northern Wisconsin, they go to him or somebody like him and they decide what the bond will be. Is that what you are telling me?
BUCHER: Bill, it's like that in the entire state. And the judge will see him when he returns to court. What are the odds do you think of this illegal immigrant returning to court.
O'REILLY: He is supposed to show up tomorrow, Mr. Bucher. If I were him I wouldn't show up. The guy's got two previous beefs. He is facing 25 years for the molestation of this girl, if convicted. He's already been deported and came back. So I mean, number one, ICE should have him. Because this is a serious allegation. The feds should have come right in and taken him away. They don't care. They didn't do it. Right detective? I'm sure they contacted the feds.
WHEELER: You are exactly right, Bill. The problem is much larger than just this one case. This is a terrible situation. What happened to this young girl. But you know what, illegal immigrants already know the courts are either going to look the other way, our Congress, our representatives look the other way because it's not politically correct. And they take advantage of that situation. So I think this situation is very indicative, Bill, of a trend that we see happening in the United States.
O'REILLY: Of course it is.
WHEELER: Let me tell you, there are 80,000 illegal immigrants right now in the United States that have active arrest warrants out for their arrest from murder to rape to shoplifting. Take your pick.
BUCHER: Here is the problem, I bet the federal immigration authorities didn't even know about this case. Because the sheriff assumed the court told them. The court assumed the sheriff told them. The D.A. said it's not my job. That's the problem. There's a hole in the system. There's a way to fix it but in this case it's just indicative of the problems.
O'REILLY: So it is possible neither the sheriff's office nor court contacted ICE, the national security people, about hey we've got an illegal alien, already deported the guy, he's back again and now charged with molesting a 12-year-old girl.
All right, tomorrow .
BUCHER: I'm willing to bet on it.
O'REILLY: Now tomorrow this guy is suppose to show up in front of Gazley again. All right. Now of course we're going to watch this case to see if he does show up. But Atkinson, the judge, has to step in if he does show up and raise the bail to an appropriate level. Does he not?
BUCHER: I think there will be a lot of people stepping in, Bill. I think now that ICE is aware of this case it would not surprise me if they grab this guy and put him in custody. But I think he is gone by now. Number two, this commissioner will raise bail. And number three, the D.A. will probably be going in either with a court commissioner or a new judge to significantly increase bail. But it's going to have to be in absentia. Because I can't imagine this guy is going to return.
O'REILLY: Well, if he doesn't show up then Gazely's got to be fired, correct.
BUCHER: Absolutely.
O'REILLY: He's got to be fired. You got to fire a guy that gave him $5,000 bond right away. Because the system is so corrupt and breaking down everywhere that I am going to make an example of this case. And we just can't have the continuing chaos that we have. And it's everybody's fault. It's the federal government's fault. It's Gazely's fault in northern Wisconsin. And what about the 12-year-old girl? Who cares about her? You know what the answer is, gentlemen? Nobody cares about that girl. And the thousands of other children who have been molested in this country.
It is just awful.
BUCHER: There's a way to fix this problem.
O'REILLY: We'll fix it on this one.
BUCHER: Well the state authorities can help out but that's another story.
O'REILLY: All right, Mr. Bucher. Thanks for coming on. Detective, as always. We'll let everybody to know if this guy shows up for his hearing tomorrow. If he doesn't, all hell is going to break loose.
Posters Note: There's $5000 that could have been put in my pocket.
There's no non-swearing, polite way for me to put it that does justice to just how full of it he is. Even the marginal number of times he's gotten his facts straight, he always mangles them to create the utmost outrage he possible can. It's marginally possible that he's got his facts right here, but I would give more credence to any story pulled out of the National Enquirer than anything this jack@$$ has to say on any subject.
So I have to ask, do you have a credible source for this story? It's the first I've heard of it.

FYI: My long term mexican beau waited 6 years to get papers to come work here within the US. He's very much upset about the whole issue and yes is in favor that something needs to be done with the system. Why did he pay the hard earned money and wait the time for a govenment ok to come here, when so many all across America took the alternative to Illegal Immirgation.

Good question. I pondered that very question this morning, as I noticed a couple arabs casing the super wal-mart. I can't imagine the sort of job that they came to the U.S. for.
Daer
What makes it bad is that immigration wont do a thing when you call them about illegal workers. I live a 1/4 mile from a large privately owned dairy farm and everytime I stop in a bunch of mexicans take off but as soon as they know im no threat they come out of hiding. Immigration will take the report but nothing is ever done. It isnt right!! Jimi

Immigrating to U.S. becomes much costlier
Many fees to skyrocket by end of the month — $1,010 for a green card
Spanish Telemundo & MSNBC NEWS
July 20, 2007
Immigrants could end up paying thousands of dollars more to enter and stay in the country after July 30, when dozens of application fees will double or even triple, sparking opposition from a broad coalition of activists and a rush by immigrants to submit their paperwork before the little-publicized changes take effect.
Altogether, 39 fees will rise an average of 66 percent, but some of the largest increases will come in charges for the most basic documents immigrants must seek. Most notably, the fee to apply for a green card, establishing legal residence in the United States, will almost triple, from $395 to $1,010.

Not so much a punishment, it just makes the person immigrating all that more relevant. Those immigrants that come here illegally aren't being punished when they are apprehended. The vast majority aren't even being apprehended.
Local law enforcement officials tell me that if they by chance are able to identify a person, or persons as having an illegal alien status, that they are to allow the law breaker to be on his/her way. Local authorities have their hands tied by federal law.
This will only create the presence of more illegal immigrants.
Build a fence.
I would like to respond to this. Yes, there are tons of illegals here, in fact, one is here in the LaCrosse area since 2002 using my social security, ruining my credit. I know she is there, goes to church, has a 13 year old daughter, takes her to the Franscican Skemp Clinic in Onalaska, but it seems that everyone here is "protecting" her. Well, let me clue you in, it could be you next. My credit is ruined because of this woman. People in your small community know her. The only thing is, she uses fake addresses, main st, market st, 4th st. She has a good friend who works for a gas station, her name is Tanyah. Why won't anyone help me locate this person so I can prosecute her? I have a 16 year old son that wants a car for his birthday, guess what? Credit ruined, can't get a loan. Please, I know that someone on this board knows her, read my post about "LOOKING FOR SOMEONE." ALEJANDRA NEGRETE IS HER NAME, SHE HAS A DAUGHTER ALEXIS. If you don't want to tell me anything, please call ONALASKA POLICE DEPARTMENT AND ASK FOR INVESTIGATOR WALKER. He is working on my case.
Local police have been given a "Hands Off" order concerning illegal aliens. I know this by having conversations with local police on this subject.
The Department of Homeland Security is the resource to contact. The following link will take you to the website that will help you report an illegal alien. Find the link to the V Dare website here: http://www.vdare.com/mann/reporting_aliens.htm
Marvin's Journey: The promised land
Trying to fit in
BOSTON - The alarm sounds at 4:30 in the tiny room that Marvin Hernandez shares near Boston's industrial district with his brother, Francisco, and eight other men from Central America.
Forty-five minutes later, Marvin steps into the dark from the run-down brownstone and boards a train. It takes him across the Charles River to high-rise office buildings downtown. There he catches a bus that travels past Boston Harbor out to working-class Chelsea. He rides the rest of the way to work in a beat-up van with 15 other Latino men and women.
Just a month after arriving in Boston, Marvin has been on the job three weeks, stacking gift boxes eight hours a day onto shipping pallets at a factory warehouse for $6 an hour.
The work isn't easy, but it pays him more in a week than -the 2,000 colones he earned in a month at the tire shop in El Salvador.
By 6:30 at night, he's back in his spartan room, studying English by himself.
Marvin acknowledges that his life doesn't sound like much, but it is his American dream come true. "
This article brings up many good points!
 * What does Marvin's story make you feel about illegal immigrants? Does it make you change your mind about them and their attempts to cross into this country?
 * And what about the larger issues raised by Marvin and others like him?
 * If illegal immigrants make it into this country and prosper, should they be allowed to stay? Should the status of illegal immigrants be considered on a case-by-case basis? Or should they all be automatically returned to their homelands?
 * What about the border with Mexico? Should more be done to regulate and control the flow of illegal immigrants? Or should existing immigration laws be reconsidered to allow some entrants easier access?
 * And what about our relations with Mexico and other Latin American countries? Should the United States push them to more aggressively help control illegal immigration?

From associating many times with Hispanics both illegal and legal I know for a fact that they (illegal immigrants) all have several alias names so its practically impossible to track. So sorry to read about your identify theft.
This is why you should never carry your SS # in your wallet or purse because of the documentation is worth a hefty penny to any illegal. This last weekend my b/f told me his American born cousin wanted to earn some extra dinero. Yes, she did become a little richer but in the long run creditors were trailing her for years. Her SS was abused with a trail of run-ins with police within Michigan. The women learned a hard lesson of the value of identity. Today she has a new SS number but not after paying for all the court charges and frustrations to clear her name of these charges.

While I sympathize your situation, please do not assume that anyone here is "protecting" her or that anyone here even knows her. With all due respect the way you came across with that post didn't have the nicest of tones. While I understand and would be just as upset as you, please do not assume that people here aren't going to help you. There are a lot of us on here, and I for one have never even been to Onalaska... many of us are here for good conversation and Wisconsin camaraderie. I would recommend posting Investigator Walker's information under your original "Looking for Someone" thread. Thank you for bringing the issue of identity theft to everyone's attention by your example. I hope your situation improves, Best of Luck.
