Hwy 10 bypass
Well, the Hwy 10 Stevens Point bypass is starting construction. They're starting to cut down the trees for the Wisconsin River crossing. The bridge will be less than a quarter mile from my house. I'm getting ready for a noisy year here with the construction equipment.
It'll be sad to see my nice quiet homestead gone forever. Highway traffic a quarter mile away is something I'm not sure I can get used to.
The only good news is that a new public boat landing will be within walking distance to my Worm Farm.

that's close...
Hi Mark,
Do you have a treeline to help keep noise at bay.
I have a friend about 1/4 mile from the new Hwy 10 in Waupaca. At his place the elements are right. His old farmhouse, barn, carriage house, orchard, bass pond, spring and banks on the Crystal - with his own little island connected by a foot bridge - are still just far enough from the highway to feel like they're in another place entirely. Thankfully a thick, healthy treeline keeps noise at bay, and shields what would otherwise be a visual blight. Hope you're as lucky.
Regards,
Keith

I grew up in that area... where is the bridge going? I live in Menasha now, but came up in the Stevens Point area. The new highway was really needed. As you know hwy 10 was a serious death trap in the condition that it was in previously... accidents have gone down over 35% and there hasn't been a Amherst death at the b and 10 inersection since the change over... that place was good for at least 2 or 3 a year. I am sorry that it will take away from your landsape though. I can understand.

The bridge will connect with the Hwy X overpass. It then crosses over River rd about a mile from Hwy E going west from I39. I'll be less than a quarter mile north of the bridge.
Oh well, we'll adjust.

With the increased traffic on Hiway 10, and you having a farm, now would be a good time to start planning a roadside produce market. Organically grown food is becoming more and more in demand. With a roadside, fresh from the farm, you'd be sure to be a success, as the middle man/distributer would be cut out of the price equation, and thus, you'd be able to offer produce at a more affordable price. I'm working with a beef rancher to do the same with his product. Beef isn't a "roadside" type of product, per sei, but I think it will move well on the web.
Just something to consider....when your solice is broken, go for the cash.
