A 23-year-old beauty queen from Kenosha, Wis., won the Miss America pageant Saturday in Las Vegas after singing opera and strutting in a white bikini and black beaded evening gown.

No, I never met her but did have the pleasure of hearing her sing at the introduction @ the college for the freshman when my daughter went in last Fall. Very pretty singing voice.

Is this a first time win for someone from Wis? I'm glad someone from Sconnie finally won. We need to show the rest of the country that we aren't a bunch of hicks.

Just read a little about Laura. She used to work at The Spot as a carhop.
Her father was in prison for a year. I like how she included that in part of the pageant. That was a scary decision to make, but she used it in her favor. She turned a negative into a positive and now it's become her goal for her future career plans as a lawyer for children of prisoners. Another advantage to coming out with the info is that they will be less likely to use it against her later on since the media loves to trash talk. She hides nothing from the public. You have to admire that.
