Overall in the state, the percentage of Wisconsin children age 5 to 17 living in poverty rose from 12.9% to 17% in the three-year period.
"I've been doing this for eight years, and I don't ever remember seeing this much of an increase (in child poverty rates)," said John Johnson, spokesman for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. "The recession has had an impact on children and their families."
Sorry can't hear these videos. Will have to get my speakers to work or find my headphones. . .
It does stand to reason the count is going to go up in schools that more children will be in poverty when there are so many out of work now. It affects everyone all the way down to children. Sad situation we are facing right now.
The real problem is poverty runs from generation to generation.. one thing I see happening is kids learn from their parents that it often doesn't pay to work, but it DOES pay to work the system.
Once the reality of having to work sets in on my buddy's kids, they will most likely marry young, get pregnant, and go on welfare or disability, just like their parents.

Not sure how this next generation will fare. I think there will be a mix of how kids growing up now will react to being in poverty. At least the new set of poverty. I say 'new' set since many teens now started out in middle class in their younger stages of life and as the down fall of homes, jobs, and money has hit these last few years middle class is fastly approaching lower incomes and the children that started out with a good life is now facing a whole total change. The 'new' poverty families didn't start with generations of this lifestyle.

Perhaps that is the only way of life that seems normal to them, and is their comfort zone.

....Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It didn’t take too long to find out
Just what he was talkin’ about
A lot of people don’t have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks ’n’ knives
And they gotta cut somethin’....
