So, what is your favorite place to shop for groceries and why? Do you follow the sales or tend to shop only at one store?
I usually buy my meats one place, canned goods and basics another, and shop at Walmart for items not available elsewhere and the dollar staores for toiletries and household cleaning supplies, etc.
Re: Wisconsin: Where Do You Do Your Grocery Shopping?
Living in a larger city we have so many choices to shop at. I think we have at least 3 Piggly Wiggly Stores, couple of Pick and Save, etc. But I mainly go to our SuperValu on the South side. Excellent meat choices and quailty, smaller store so you can actually walk through, good sales, and great people working there.
I also like to shop Woodmans from time to time since it has anything and everything.
I do shop the 'Pig' sometimes if they have a good sale that brings me in.
We also have a Mexican Food Market that I stop in to pick up certain items.
Re: Wisconsin: Where Do You Do Your Grocery Shopping?
We don't have a lot of choices here. Our Piggly store is smaller than the other Piggly Wigglys (Dave, did I see you laughing at that name ).
We always go to Pick n Save since it's only half mile from the house and the biggest store here. We go to Walmart for some items, if we happen to be there for other non-food items.
There's a little grocery store that has a limited selection, but we sometimes go there to see what they have for different cheeses.
Occasionally we go to Aldi, but I don't stop very often.
When we go out of town sometimes we stop at other grocery stores just to find other items you can't get here. Sendik's, Woodman's, the bigger Piggly stores and whatever else. I used to go to Sentry when Oconomowoc had one. I used to go to Kohl's grocery store when we had that here. That's the building they tore down to build the current Pick n Save.
We use a few coupons, but it takes time to mess with lots of those. I try to catch sales, but I know I should be better at this because I used to use lots of coupons and spend time looking at sale items in the paper. I just don't feel like it half the time.

I really should start doing more of that. You need to buy groceries no matter what, so why not save more? It does take time and effort though. Many people don't have time or don't want to bother.
I need to find cheaper TP. That is getting so expensive. I might need to switch to magazines and newspapers.
Re: Wisconsin: Where Do You Do Your Grocery Shopping?
I used to be really concerned about germs but I also realize that we have become immune to large amounts of common germs so I don't think about it much.. unless I'm over at my neighbor's.. not much I will touch over there.
Re: Wisconsin: Where Do You Do Your Grocery Shopping?
Thinking about this... favorite place isn't where I go often enough. Farmers Markets, the Public Market in Milwaukee, some nice delis, butcher shops and bakeries.... instead go to Pick 'n Save.
Re: Wisconsin: Where Do You Do Your Grocery Shopping?
I like the Public Market in Milwaukee. It reminds me of a mini Pike's Place Market in Seattle. You would love that place. It's covers about 8 city blocks. I want to go back there someday. They are famous for their fish tossing. I liked the Russian bakery called Piroshky, Piroshky. A piroshki is like a stuffed bun with either fruit fillings or meat fillings. The breads were wonderful too.
We ate at this little Vietnamese (or something like that) restaurant in one of the buildings. It was hidden in back of the building and everyone sat around a counter and on a few tables. The 2 ladies cooked your meal right on a regular kitchen stove centered right behind the counter as we all watched. It was cheap, which is hard to find in Seattle and really good food.

You are so right Keith. I listed my places I do go, not the places I love to go. In Kenosha we have a large farmers/craft market every Saturday down by the Museum/lake. They have wonderful choices including meat etc. Love to shop there or even just walk around. Public Market in Milwaukee my daughter loves to pick things up there, or we go over to the Spice Shop, only place I love to buy spices at now. Across the street we buy our sausage and down the street our different cheeses. We have a great place here in Kenosha to purchase fresh meat at L&M Meats. Also we have an array of outlet stores here in Kenosha and one place I love to go to is the Pepperidge Farm Outlet for various breads, cookies, and other goodies.
Guess the problem is, time and money. It's faster to go to the grocery store and get everything at once, and cheaper to shop the sales and use coupons. Unfortunately that takes over quality and fun I guess.
Re: Wisconsin: Where Do You Do Your Grocery Shopping?
I listed where I get my groceries, but since the topic said groceries, I didn't think to list smaller specialty stores like meat markets or bakeries.
We don't even have much of a bakery here in town anymore. It's now a Mexican bakery that doesn't carry much of the rolls and donuts that we are accustomed to. That's too bad because they always had a lot of business in the morning with all the people coming in for donuts and coffee cakes to take to work. We used to have three bakeries in town when I was growing up.
And we also love the Saturday morning Farmer's Market in downtown Shawano.

I want to check out the farmer's market in town one of these weeks... I like Brennan's for the cheese. My mom and I spent quite a bit of time there one day tasting cheeses. We ended up buying quite a bit too.
I would like to find a place with good fish/seafood that's not too far away.
