The birth of the ice cream sundae

In honor of Google's logo today (4/3/11) everyone should eat a sundae. The has been a long argument (but a friendly one) about who holds the honor of inventing the first sundae. Is it Two Rivers, WI or Ithaca, NY? It depends on who you ask. I'm going with Two Rivers because we all know WI has the best ice cream.

Re: The birth of the ice cream sundae

I've never heard of a Mexican sundae.

One my local favorites is from a drive-in. It has butterscotch topping, chocolate jimmies and salted pecans.

Re: The birth of the ice cream sundae

Oh, you mean a Tin Roof sundae? That's what it looks like to me. I've never seen a sundae on any menu called a Mexican sundae.

Re: The birth of the ice cream sundae

Probably not considered PC these days.. quite common when I was a kid. Used to go to our local dairy/ice cream shop and get them all the time.

From the article:

Ice cream aficionados will note that the ingredients of the Mexican sundae sound awfully close to a Tin Roof sundae: vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and peanuts. The Tin Roof is another dessert whose name lacks an agreed-upon origin story, though most lead toward the sound the peanuts make when rattling around in their can, like rain on a tin roof.
