Record 42 million Americans on food stamps including 1 in 8 Wisconsinites
Statewide, 1 out of 8 people, adding up to nearly 760,000 of Wisconsin’s 5.6 million residents are FoodShare recipients, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS).
DHS says the number of people on food stamps has climbed about 8 percent from January 2010 and around 25% from the summer of 2009.
The sobering numbers also show that in the past decade, the department’s FoodShare caseload has more than tripled from a low in 1999 to a record high currently.

Blame it on high unemployment. People are just trying to survive.

I just have to ask, how many of those food stamps are going to legal US citizens? You know some illegal immigrants are getting a free ride.

On the other hand, legal citizen or not, food stamps often go to those who don't really need them.. I know one family in my complex that gets just short of $1000 a month in food stamps.. this family buys alot of junk food and sells off a big chunk of food stamps every month because they don't really need that many.

I realize there are Americans that abuse the system. But even still, I'd rather Americans get the food than illegals that don't even belong here. I don't like to see anyone getting food stamps that doesn't need them, but better an American than a illegal alien. I've had it with illegal people sponging off the American tax payers. If more Americans would start paying attention to how bad the whole situation really is, they would be a lot more angry. Unfortunately far too many people are in the dark and I'm not just talking about food stamps.

I know Rudy Gulliani had a system in NY for food stamps (or maybe it was welfare) that kept people from getting 2 or 3 times more than what they were supposed to. It saved a lot of money. That's all it takes is for someone to come up with a way to keep people from abusing the system.
