Anyone else a fan of live theater? I love to go when I can tho I haven't been to a play in a number of years. In fact, the last play I saw was Annie while living in western NY in the 80's.
What plays or live theater have you seen in Wisconsin? What do you like or dislike about live theater? I love the feeling of being part of the action but hate long scene changes..
It's been a while since I've seen a play or musical. My love of musicals started in high school when I worked behind the scenes on plays. We did Westside Story, Fiddler on the Roof and South Pacific. There were the regular plays that we did, but never as much fun or as exciting as musicals. Musicals always sold out and plays usually didn't. That should tell you what people enjoy more.
Over the years I've seen: Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy, Grease, Forever Plaid and that's all I can think of right now.
Nothing I dislike about live theater. Sure beats seeing it on a TV.
Not really plays, but other shows I've seen in a theater: Blue Man Group, David Copperfield and Gallagher.
I love going to the theater to watch musicals! They are the best!
I went to all the school musicals that my son was in when he was in high school. They did "The Music Man", "Bye Bye Birdie", "The Wizard of Oz" and "The Sound of Music".
I've been to the Fireside Theater in Ft. Atkinson four times and saw "Evita", "Grease" and "42nd St" but I can't remember what the other one was.
We also have a community theater here that puts on wonderful shows every summer! I've seen "Fiddler on the Roof", "Oliver", "The King and I", "A Christmas Carol", "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat" and "West Side Story". This summer they will be doing "Peter Pan."
I also saw "The Lion King" and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" on Broadway when I visited NY City four years ago. Now those were some awesome shows!
I think I prefer musicals to other kinds of theater only because I love the display and fanfare that comes along with most..
Would love to see West Side Story..

Musicals are just more fun and entertaining. Plays without music can be kind of boring, but that could because the only non-music plays I've seen were high school ones. Some of those were Shakespeare plays and I just can't get into that, because so hard to understand.
I love Shakespeare.. but I agree, until you acquire an ear for it, it can be difficult to follow.. it's really quite beautiful.. my favorites are Henry V, Romeo and Juliet, and Much Ado About Nothing..
"Done to death by slanderous tongues, was the Hero that here lies: Death, in guerdon of her wrongs, gives her fame which never dies. So the life that died with shame lives in death with glorious fame."

I guess I need it put in plain everyday English to understand what is even being said. I need a translator to understand Shakespeare. Just give me clear modern language.
I hear ya.. I was the same way til I really started listening.. one sentence of Shakespeare can speak volumes tho..
You should rent Keneth Branaugh's Much Ado About Nothing.. it's awesome..
"In brief, since I do purpose to marry, I will think nothing to any purpose that the world can say against it; and therefore never flout at me for what I have said against it; for man is a giddy thing, and this is my conclusion."
- William Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing, 5.4

My son played Chino in the Community Theater's summer production of West Side Story a few years ago. He was the one who shot and killed Tony at the end. He doesn't even look Puerto Rican so they had to use a lot of makeup on him! LOL

Net seems to be working now.. still trying to get my Skype to work, keeps saying the base station is not connected. The kids have kicked it under the desk so many times it's a wonder it works at all..
