Since 2000, the Hispanic population in Wisconsin has increased by 48.2% to 285,827 people, or 5.1% of the state's population, according to new estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.
In Milwaukee County alone, the Hispanic population rose during that time by 39% to 114,238 people, or 12% of the population.
The new census data also show that in the same period, from 2000 to July 1, 2008, the state's African-American population increased 10.5% to 341,723, including a 4.7% increase in Milwaukee County to 245,238. African-Americans make up 6.1% of the state's population.
The state's Asian population increased 25.8% since 2000 and stands at 114,503, constituting 2% of the state's population.
Funny, i don't recall doing a US Census in 2008 or at all in the past several years.
I remember my daughter asking me if I wanted to sign up for the job this Spring for census taker. Never heard anything else about it and no one has come by here. Maybe they take a lot of the numbers off other records, school records, etc? Not sure but something to look up I guess.

I recall an ad run several months ago on channel 3000, offering $18/hr for door to door census workers (no way would i do that job!), but like yourself, i never heard anything more about it.
Their numbers must be way off if they are going by county records.
We had a census worker come by last week to verify addresses but no one to ask questions yet.
I saw a woman going door to door here a couple weeks ago but I didn't answer the door because I thought she was one of the Jehovah's Witnesses that we get here a couple times a month. I found out later from a neighbor that she was a census worker.

You too huh... Did you know that if you put a sign outside your door "No solicitors" they wont even knock.. I find that looking through the peep hole & just saying (through the door) "I'm not answering, go away!" works too.
First of all I do have to say that when I was in high school I had a nice friend that was a Jehovah's Witnesses. I have nothing against any one's religion. But I will admit that once they come onto my property uninvited I feel I have the right to tell them to go away. I don't believe in many of their views on things and I don't have the time to discuss things with them. They are not going to change me as I will not be able to change them, so I just cut to the chase and say, not interested and shut the door if I even open it in the first place.

I have friends & have dated two guys who are Jahovas as well & i am not one to be judgemental of others religion at all, but none of them came to my door trying to change my beliefs or left pamphlets on my car window. It's just a tacky way of pushing your beliefs on others & i'm not for that, whether religion or politics, don't come to my house & try to force feed me your info... If i'm interested, i'll seek it out myself.

My thoughts exactly. I have talked briefly to one lady who came here but only because I know her since she lives down the street. When she found out we belong tot he Methodist Church she didn't bother us anymore. Other than that, I won't even answer the door if someone comes here I don't know.
My mom has actually had them walk right into her house uninvited and she had to tell them to leave or she would call the cops. Now that is really being pushy! When we were growing up she had a sign on our house that said "No Insurance salesmen, solicitors or religious fanatics allowed!" And we never had any either. LOL

I'd like to see anyone try that on me, they would be calling the cops on me after i got my message across.
Once I had some lady down the street barge into my house while I was on my lunch (half) hour and in a hurry. She was collecting money for something like Easter Seals or the Heart Assoc. I forget which thing it was. She just walked right in my house as I was running around trying to throw my lunch together quick. I thought that takes some nerve since I didn't even know her and never talked to her before.
