Another case of thrill killing in Wis. What is going on lately? A group of teens went around killing raccoons, opossums and skunks using clubs with nails in them to beat the animals. Then they would take a picture with their cell phone to prove to the others that they killed the animal.
They are being charged with hunting out of season, hunting within 50 feet of a road and hunting by illegal means. Hunting???? That is not hunting. That is abusing and torturing animals.

Simply disgusting IMO.. some will argue there are "boys will be boys" pranks but this is inexcusable and criminal. I'd be ashamed if it were one of my kids..
I've known at least two people like that.. one guy I knew in NY bragged that his 8 yr old choked one of their goats to death. Thought it was something to be proud of apparently..
Another guy used to insist to his kids that he used kittens as bait when he went shark fishing. His one 12 yr old daughter was so messed up she couldn't pass road kill without poking it with a stick. She actually told me in all seriousness she'd like to cut the nose off a homeless man.
I hope she outgrew that.. she's going on 25 now.. was arrested all thru her teens for beating up people.
So, maybe they do grow up to be serial killers..

It's a sign of someone that can kill without any remorse, maybe a serial killer when they get older?
Hello everyone, just got back power, been sitting in the dark places around my living room. Been wrapped up with a job that just keeps getting more intresting.
To express surprise at the actions of these kids(15-20) or maybe not as child like as I'd expected. The fact that such action would be a credit (TXT. pic's to friends), goes notably to the area of the state they are from.
Living in Pardeeville, and the surrounding area for ten years, I can say that the youth are starved for attention, and activity.
In a repressive society, people act out on the impulses they can control. Not a one of those kids thought they could get in trouble for killing a skunk, or opossum. The act of violence, in retrospect to attention seems accurate. We reward by success, not moral, or content satisfaction, but a cry out for "look what I can do".
Missing my Mommy and all, no she isn't dead, it just took 20 years to realize when your parents, or parent, work; your not going to see them.
Surly all the authorities involved were amazed by how little parental guidance any one of the kids had.
This is really a sad day for the youth in Columbia County, and sadder for it's parents.
Seeing a lot of the "I'm going to get mine" attitude from the youth nowadays.
Seeing allot of promise and hope from the same kids, so it isn't a complete loss.
Think I need to go and kiss my kids, and stare at them for a second or two while they sleep, and are still my little angels. Got some catching up to do on the post front.
Better days

I've read stories that made me walk up & kiss my kids, tell them i love them & thank them for having turned out so well, though i been a single mom for 20 yrs & often worked 12 hrs a day or 2-3 jobs at once, not that you were saying it was the parents fault... but some will always use the defense that the parents weren't around much or they seeked attention due to not being in the perfect home etc...
When it comes to facing charges on these senseless crimes, I don't agree with the defense of 'they were a lonely child' or 'lacked parental guidence' because a parent was a deadbeat leaving the other parent to struggle & survive, therefore not there as much as they would have liked, that's no excuse to be a heartless pos IMO.
I call BS on defenses like that, it is nothing more than making excuses for these killers. YES disipline & example of how to act begins in the home, but once there are outside influences, some (not all) kids go after the attention of their friends, not because they lack it at home, but because they want to look "cool" with their friends & when looking cool results in violent crimes & cruelty to animals etc... that just simply shows they have that capability to harm & i'm sure those are the Jeffery Dahlmers of the world, waiting to strike again.

Reminds of this creep that lives near me or used to, I have no idea if he's still around. He said he would like to kill a deer just to watch it bleed. That guy always did give me the willies.

That's what it is...excuses. I do believe the parents have a lot of influence on their kids, but they don't need to be around 24 hours a day to influence the kids. Both of my parents worked when I was a kid and my brother and I spent plenty of time at home without them as we got old enough. We never got out of hand because we knew we'd get in trouble once they got home. Also, we never thought about going out to get in trouble. I'm not saying we were perfect or did anything stupid, but nothing as bad as these kids and we weren't breaking the laws.
I never felt that by both of my parents working and having other things they were involved in as us not getting enough attention. When my parents were home we had plenty of fun together.

100% agree, anyone who could pummel anything to death, without being in fear of their own actions, is disturbing.
The attention I'm referring to from parents is in regard to discipline. The concept of Ma, and Pa, sitting down and not "only" telling us we were wrong, but why, then with a Scripture or something to help us make a better decision in the future, prevention.. Ma used to say "before you do something your not sure of ask yourself.
"Ask your self,...? think??? What would I think if I saw you doing it, and what would "God" think, cause he's watch in.
All those little things my Ma would tell me after getting into trouble, are what formed my person as it is today. Never believing that there are things my Kids wont understand, needing to find ways of relating it to a 6 year old in terms they, "can" comprehend.
Some parents feel their hands are tied, others feel as if they are going to loss their little babies if they scold them to harshly. It is tough, to express tough love.
So some parents, nowadays, would rather, reserve the dirty work for local law enforcement, or forgo it all together and fall into Denial.
" It was only a skunk "?? Right, ruin a kids life over the life of a skunk. At least some in depth counseling, and future observation are in order, due to M.O.
As far as the Twenty year old , involved is concerned, they may already be bragging how stupid the rest of his friends were, and how easy it was to get them to do it. They are the one's needing to made of an "Example", they knew exactly what they were doing.
By creating all these new restrictions on todays youth that we were never held too, we are destroying the ability for the mind to develop problem solving skills.
How did we ever make it without Child Protective seats, or Mandatory seat belt laws, Know one in the car after 8:00 PM if under 18, and driver under 18. No more then 1 other occupant under 16, allowed in the car, with under age driver. Just change the age then. When my son gets his License he may get pulled over if he drives to school with his little brothers, not that he would get into trouble, they are his Brothers, but still he could get pulled over, just because they were seen in the car. Think we may be developing a Generation of automaton's.
I never felt that by both of my parents working and having other things they were involved in as us not getting enough attention. When my parents were home we had plenty of fun together.
Loving parents, are all that matter, not all parents are loving. Not all parents are attentive. You know the parents I'm talking about. Any parent you see that forces you to shake your head when you hear them Call their ten year old " stupid as your Father " or the inevitable, "wish I'd never had you". Words Hurt, trust me.
My Ma did everything she could, as a single Mom, to raise three Boy's in Milwaukee, we lived in the Projects, West Lawn, back in the seventies, till I was 6. She worked from 7 in morning to 7 at-night, I cooked and cleaned with my brothers because Ma, was not around, I had a part time job cleaning a Banquette Hall of a Bar Saturdays, and Sunday's, when I was eight. Trust me I got into trouble, legal problems to boot, but I always knew what I'd done was wrong, on a bigger level then just the joint that I should not have smoked, or the school I was Skipping.
This story makes me wonder if these kids are sorry they killed, or are they sorry they got caught. Big Difference?

DNR Investigates Suspected Thrill Killings Of Animals
Authorities said Christopher Swanke, 22, was arrested in a Friday night sting by DNR wardens and Columbia County deputies. He is facing several charges of reckless endangerment and a charge of trying to elude officers.
Swanke is accused of driving more than 85 mph and trying to elude officers with five passengers in his truck.
Wardens said they believe Swanke and several Beaver Dam High School students used a spotlight to find their prey -- raccoons and opossums -- before beating the animals to death with bats and clubs.
Perfect example of outside influence... This 22 year old grown man was driving 85 miles an hour down country roads, chancing these high schoolers, his own & others lives, all in fun & murder of another living thing... sad!
