Exclamation Unemployment in Wisconsin

With all the talk of depressions, recessions, layoffs, and unemployment lately, I wondered how Wisconsin was faring relative to the rest of the Nation.

Keith had an interesting post here:

A new survey shows Milwaukee is runner-up when it comes to unemployment in the nation's largest cities.

Milwaukee - 2nd Worst UnEmployment of top 50 US Cities

According to an article on wisconsinhistory.org, Milwaukee also fared poorly during the Great Depression:

Milwaukee was especially hit hard by the depression, despite its diversified industries. Between 1929 and 1933, the number of people who had jobs in the city fell by 75%, and 20% of people received some form of direct relief from Milwaukee County. Milwaukee's mayor, Daniel Hoan, organized a national conference of mayors in 1933 to pressure the federal government for help. Adding insult to injury, a severe drought settled onto the Midwest in the early 1930s, crippling Wisconsin
agriculture.

Yes, but most of you Bubblerites already knew this. I've applied for about 1-3 job openings in my field per week. There are more than that, but for some it's not a good match with my skills, but a bigger problem is location. Some are just a bit too far from home.

I have dropped off resumes at other companies that aren't advertising openings. You never know if they might need someone. I've gotten interviews in the past this way. It's just a matter of timing it right.

I've signed up with C2 Graphics, Aquent and Adtec staffing. They all specialize in the graphic design field. Nothing from any of them yet. I've signed up with a couple of other staffing agencies that have a variety of different areas they hire for. I've never had much luck with any staffing agencies in the past and I'm not expecting much this time either. I just figured the more places I have my name out there with, the better my odds.

Yes, employers! Hire a hard working and great graphic designer like me. You won't be disappointed, I promise.
