What does this say about our state?
1 in every 39 Wisconsinites can be found in the corrections system.

Apparently the new corrections reports shows that the US has past the 5 million mark on the number of people on parole, probation or in corrections. This includes 1 out of 39 adults in the state of Wisconsin which is almost 3 times the amount from just 25 years ago.

Read that on channel 3000 last night... something like 1 in every 31 in the entire usa combined & 1 in every 39 for wi... just crazy numbers! I bet 80% of those could be let go if they legalized weed... just saying.

Well as long as it's illegal to have it or sell it then people know they will be thrown in jail if they are caught with it. I say simply don't mess with drugs if you don't want to pay for your crime if you get caught.

I saw the other day that 1 out of every 31 Americans is in prison or jail.. compares closely to your statistic!

I can say I haven't seen the inside of a prison. My driving record is clean too.

Likewise... never been to jail. Other than my car accident, i had a speeding ticket when i was in my early 20's, that's it.

I've been in New Hampshire State Prison.

Went to visit friends in New Hampshire, Steve and Cathy. Steve and I were MPs in the same unit in Germany. Steve was employed by the prison to teach wood shop to the inmates. When I visited we got a few of his brothers and friends and I together for a game of baseball in the prison yard.

We went through a lock-down entry including a search. Then walked through the cells - both sides. Shudder. "Hey boy, you need a daddy!" Shudder.

The prison, u-shaped, enclosed the yard on three sides. The baselines to first and third ended less than twenty feet from the walls. We played everything that was fair off those walls.

The outfield in left and right were cut short by walls. Center field was a 20 foot fence. Over that fence was a ground rule double, unless you hit the guard tower in the middle. Automatic home run.

Inmate audience through barred windows in the walls hooted and hollered. High-intensity baseball, my friends.

I've been to the Jail here to fill out papers for a police check fo my apt application.. as close as I ever want to be.

I know people locally tho that are and have been arrested on a "regular" basis: DUI, Domestic Dispute, etc.

I was in the Walworth County jail once. We went on a tour of the new facility when it was built about 15 years or so ago. It was really interesting but I don't think I'd ever want to go back there. Seems I remember some big hoopla about the Sheriff getting a $10,000 desk in his new office. I think the tax payers were more interested in the desk than in seeing the new jail at the time.

Our oldest son was "hauled in" once for non payment of a traffic ticket (show of power). He called us to bail him out, but my husband decided to teach him a lesson and left him there over night. When he got out the next day, he said he NEVER wanted to go back there again! It was tough love, but it sure worked.
