Lake Superior, a natural resource with Wisconsin connections, is in the running to be recognized as of the world’s New 7 Wonders of Nature.
The 261 nominees from 222 countries have been selected for consideration, according to organizers of the New 7 Wonders campaign, a Swiss-based nonprofit foundation.
Lake Superior, which borders the northwestern corner of Wisconsin, is the largest of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area and is the world's fourth-largest freshwater lake by volume.
