So ~ here is my van..... my poor van...it dont even want to move today
Once I opened the door to get inside, I could not close it because I kept dragging piles of snow into the van.... had to drive out, door opened to the plowed area before I could get the door closed.
I was just outside digging out the mailbox. I had to climb over a thigh high pile of snow left behind by the snowplow. That would have made a funny picture of me climbing over and sinking in. I did take a few pics of my mailbox buried.
Been there, done all that.. I've been in snow storms with drifts literally up over the house. I was stuck on a city bus in Western NY almost 8 hours to go 3 miles during the blizzard in '77! We had some drifts near Lake Ontario as high as the phone lines!
I dont remember the year.... I was a kid ... and I remeber the snow and drifts were so bad that my dad popped me out a window and I had to go free up a door so he could get outside and clear snow.
I remember digging out our door and the neighbors door. The drifts were so high pretty much the whole door was gone.
Then I remember sledding on those huge snow banks! It was a blast!
The first big blizzards I can recall were in '61 and '66.. I remember it snowing during the Blackout of '65 but don't recall if it was a blizzard. We were in Corning, NY visiting relatives and we kids played by candle light!
Glad we never got snow that bad like NY. I know that area always gets a lot of snow. Didn't they just get a bunch of snow last year or the year before where it was up to the rooftops? I thought I saw pics of that.
The storm I was thinking of was about 12 feet of snow. I did some searching and found a story about 10 feet of snow in 8 days from Feb 2007. That was in Oswego, NY.
So far this snow season (through March 12(2008)) Green Bay has received 80.3 inches of snow. This is the first time in Green Bay’s modern-day weather history that more than 80 inches of snow has been measured (117 years of snowfall data). Normal seasonal snowfall is 53.1 inches, the National Weather Service in Ashwaubenon reported.
