The historic carousel in Waterloo is going to be relocated to higher ground in Waterloo Fireman's Park after June floods damaged it. The antique carousel is from 1911 and on the national register of historic places. The carousel had been open in the summer on Sunday afternoons and the Fourth of July for rides. Plans are made for making repairs to the flood damaged carousel. The building that holds the carousel will be dismantled and moved as well.
It is believed that the carousel is very rare and may be the only one of it's kind from that era. Wooden carousels were only made until 1925 by the CW Parker company. Most were demolished during the Great Depression. Waterloo's carousel is estimated to be worth $1 million.
One summer a few years ago I attended the Fourth of July fireworks celebration in Waterloo. It is a very nice park with a nice set-up. They do some decent fireworks for a town that size. I got a chance to see the carousel in action. I really enjoyed the park.
