Read where they are starting to refill the lake, good news for all the businesses in the area. Just hope that they were not put completely out of business by the loss of the lake this past summer.
That had to be one of the strangest sites I'd ever seen. It was so strange in part because the lake had been created so long ago that I didn't even realize it was man made. It's good to see them getting it put back together.
I to just read about this. Hope the area can recover by next season with the loss of the lake this year and the economy the way it is. Will have to keep a watch on how things go next summer.
What's cool about this is that I'll be in the Dells next weekend and will get to see the progress they've made. I never got to see it empty in person, only in photos.
I finally got to see Lake Delton this weekend. No pictures, however. There is some water in the lake, but what came in has froze. We drove around it and across the repaired section of Hwy A. You can see the channel where it cut across to the river. They didn't fill that in, and probably won't. You could see dead grass and stumps in the bottom where the water hasn't filled in yet. We also got see some eagles flying around the lake.
One business had a sign that read, "4 hour pontoon rides for 95 cents." Great to see they can find some humor in it.
It was great to see that they are making a comeback. I think next year they will have a great year with all that extra attention that area received this year. Everyone is going to be happy to see things back to normal.
One interesting thing I got to see when we stayed at the Kalahari down the road was a video that someone had made of the lake draining. I had seen lots of videos and photos on the internet, but this one was from a different angle that I had not seen before. Most videos show the side of the houses facing the lake. This one was taken from the back of the houses facing the road. You could see the channel growing bigger and bigger while trees fell in. You can see the water rushing through faster and faster as the channel widens. The video was about 15 min. long and showed the time of day every so often that it was filmed at, to give you an idea of how fast it happened. What an amazing force water can be.
This is similar to the video I saw at the Kalahari, except the one I watched was clear and not dark. The camera angle is near the same spot and the cameraman's shaking is familiar. The video that we saw was on a larger TV screen and clear. This is also a very short version of what we were watching, but it's the best I could find on youtube as an example.
This is what most of the videos show of the houses breaking into the lake. I can't even imagine losing everything like that.
I'm happy to see that the repairs of the lake are taking place and it's filling up again. It must have been very exciting for the Dells residents. I didn't expect them to have it fixed so soon, but it's great news for the area.
I seen that one family didn't have flood insurance and lost everything. I think the insurance company wouldn't offer flood insurance and there goes the home floating away. I could be wrong but that's what I remember.
That's true, they couldn't get flood insurance. I don't think it was just them, but probably all those people. It's been a rough year for them. You can't replace some things like photos.
