I stumbled on to this useful site by accident. I was looking up famous Wisconsin people. When I saw the line below the site description, " (And by the way, please slap anyone who says WESconsin!)," I knew this would be a great site. When people say WESconsin it bugs me, it's a pet peeve of mine.

The site has pronunciations of Wisconsin towns and cities. There are lists of important Wisconsin people and how to pronounce their names.

I always thought it was fun to listen to people try to pronounce Oconomowoc.

I like that the site used a song by The Gomers. I went to school with a couple of them.

Great site, Blue! I didn't realize Wisconsin had so many hard-to-pronounce place names until I started hanging around with a couple people from the UK. All those native names really threw them. I thought it was ironic because most of those are mis-pronounciations of the ORIGINAL names the native people gave them. First mangled by...European settlers.

You'll laugh about this. I learned on that site how to pronounce Outagamie. Shawano was another that I had wrong.

I've been pronouncing Chenequa wrong all this time LOL.

Here's one I wouldn't have gotten right-Lac Courte Oreilles = la coo tah ray

We have a town out here spelled Duenweg.. pronounced "done-a-weg".. had me stumped.

OK, now I know it's late tonight, or early morning how ever you want to look at it. lol But didn't I just post a few in this post just the other day or is there another post just like this one? I'll have to look around to see what I am thinking of. lol Or maybe I'm just sooo confused.

OK, now I feel better. There is actually 2 others very similar to this one which also includes several links on how to pronounce places etc in Wisconsin. Maybe these could be all combined some way? Just a thought.
