With the econony being what it is and would think people would be scrambling to get a job doing anything they could to survive...
I am finding that thought as WRONG...
I am wanting to get many business's up and going and can't find anyone to work, let alone show up only when they want to...
There is so few of places also to advertise that don't have the cost of Tv, Radio, and papers that I am at a place I don't like being, is to have to look for a job myself...
Frustration is an understatement as some want $10.00 cash per hour and have not a clue of how to do the job, and another that wouldn't tell me what he wanted and would get back to me and was never heard from again...
What to do, is all I ever think about before I can even get the biz's up and going...
For example the blowing and plowing biz I need to have workers before the white stuff falls...
I just don't have any ideas to have this all get done and about to cry...
Thanks for any input...
Signed:
Loosing His Mind...

I would suggest that you have school aged (high school) kids work for you or retired help maybe? Honestly i wouldn't get out of bed for an income of $10/hour myself, but youngins or those on a fixed income might be a better target for that pay.
The thing is this area is so remote and jobs are not like anywhere else...
The issue with Craig's list is we are in the middle of all place's listed...
Here is the list...
appleton-oshkosh-FDL
duluth / superior
eau claire
green bay
janesville
kenosha-racine
la crosse
madison
milwaukee
sheboygan
wausau
I was told by the manager at a large biz today that it is like a garden out there...
He said it is not like years ago... Now one has to go threw a lot of weeds to find a flower and we that have business's are mower's...

I have to say that first people want a steady job. If you are looking for part time work you need to make it really worth it. I think that 10.00 per hour is crazy for that type of work. You need to pay 15.00 per hr to start.
If you can not pay that amount then you will never have dependable help that you can count on.

She couldn't work on Sunday's, mornings from 7 till about 1:00 pm, and she has NOT a clue about mechanicals at all...
Geez, if it stopped I don't want to pay someone because they ran out of gas...
That is why there was NO way I would agree to $10.00...
I am thinking to offer commision for each place...
That might give them the drive to get with the job...

Well If you were offering more per hour then you would get people who do know what they are doing. 20.00 or 25.00 per hour and you would have a very nice list to draw from when ever you needed to. The whole point of starting up your own business is not for you to get rich. Its to build up your client base. The money will follow. I know many people who started a business and made no money while their employes did but years latter some of these same owners are now millionaires.

I have to agree with Randy, I don't own a business, but as an employee, believe me, you will get what you pay for.

Sorry to say but sounds like you are far from ready to start any type of business. You don't have the cash flow to even pay for good advertising, you can't pay a decent wage to attract someone to work for you. How long do you honestly believe you will keep your business going on such a shoestring?
I also think when you do go out as you mentioned you may have to do and look for a job yourself you may understand that 10.00 an hour is not going to sustain you either and I have a feeling you will think you need a higher wage too.
This of course is just my thoughts and I may be wrong given I don't know all the details but that is what I'm getting from all of this so far.
I always paid more than anyone else, and offered other perks to my employees......MY money came later on, but the business grew.
(not the biz I am in NOW, I am talking companies in the past)
What I got were employees who worked for me for YEARS and who treated me with respect and got the job done, and done WELL! They were happy! And we ALL made money.
You get what you pay for!

So, so true. Very rarely do you get an employee worth their weight in gold that accepts payment in pyrite.
Hiring people on a per-job basis may be a better bet at this point. The other option is hiring independent contractors - people with their own plows. A lot of people want to work, they just don't want to run the business end of things. If you promote yourself as a booking agent for plow work, that may sound more attractive to people that just want to plow snow for some extra money.
You are all right...
I have not offered $10.00 per hour, it is what one wanted and was not available... It would be to much of a headace to get her involved...
Here is what I believe to offer... If someone would do the math then they would understand, but it seems that math is not a good subject...
A Hypothetical property is charged $30.00... The blowers would get 30% each to start, with a two blower team...
Figuring it would take 1/2 hour to do the property that is not bad of pay considering it is my equipment, upkeep, administrative costs, advertising, Etc. that I believe is not bad...
Oh by the way I never even said anything in the ad about how much the pay was going to be...
I even asked one guy what he wants and I had dead silence on the phone...Now that is using my jalopy and trailers that runs the route...

A guy sent an Email and is off the scale of wow...
After going threw hell of trying to find anyone with work ethics, there is one that came to the state recently from Oregon... Wisconsin used to have ethics but after being gone myself for 13 years, I came back to a state that has been raped...
He is excited about what was offered and going to let me know...
There is hope...
