Some people may need this reminder since Sears isn't always there first choice when shopping.
It's amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and they haven't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year is the question?
How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty?
By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.
Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.
I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.
A person I know of decided to check this before they passed this info out to others, so they sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:
I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.
This is their answer to the e-mail:
Dear Customer:
Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.
Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.
Please pass this on to all your friends. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!
I'll go out of my way, given your post, to pick up something extra at Sears.
They're already excellent for Tools. Not the cheapest - just the best value. A lifetime warranty on Craftsman hand tools.
Watch the sales. I've found them rivaling online stores for large flat screen TVs and some computer products; more so when you factor in shipping.
The kind of policy you mention certainly warrants a stroll through the store the next time you're shopping. Tell a manager you're there because of the policy (that you saw in theBubbler!).
Click on the State of Wisconsin on the map there and you'll get a great list of Wisconsin employers who are highly-rated for their support of military men and women.
I've worked for walmart before & can honestly say NO, i couldn't even see them being fair to their employees, much less anything else... however the lower prices keep me shopping there for household & some groceries.
I was just going to post about the sears stores closing. Glad I checked here first.
It shows the Menomonee Falls store as only being at that location since 2006. Before they put the Sears in there use to be a K-mart store in the same building that closed. Sears owns all the K-marts, correct?? Wonder if they thought putting a Sears Store in was going to do better. Guess it didn't since it looks like it lasted only a couple of years.
It shows where they are closing seven by Feb. but they plan on closing a dozen by the end of this year, which includes eight K-mart stores. I wonder if that includes our K-mart we have here in Kenosha? It always seems so slow in that store when I stop in.
Not surprised & i wonder how long before they will all close, the prices are ridiculous in comparison to the same products elsewhere (aren't the tools their only unique big sellers?) & k-mart was pretty much a lost cause before sears took it over, thanks to wal-mart.
whaaa Just like the ponderosas & shakeys... the world as we know it & grew up with is changing all around us, not that i care about sears, being overpriced & not competative, but i miss me some ponderosa & shakeys!

Sears does own the K-Marts. I lived in the Falls and with so many other shopping choices, I never used the Sears.
The Sears Grand was a strange hybrid of a Sears and a K-Mart. They took a few Sears departments like appliances, and a few K-Mart departments like clothing, and condensed them into smaller departments in one store. It was such a hodgepodge of merchandise with little selection... and prices much higher than Target or other big box stores. It's great what they're doing for their military staff, but they won't be around to have any staff if they can't be competitive.
The Falls also has a JC Penney in a strip mall (in the old Wal-Mart location). It seems to be doing well, but they brought in a Sephora and other high-end lines to make its offerings more unique.
Thanks for sharing, I haven't shopped there for a while, next time I go up to Duluth I'll stop over to the Mall there and check them out.
Does anyone shop at JCPenny? In the past I would buy most of my clothes from them. Anyway I heard that the Levi jeans they sold were no longer made in the USA. I e-mailed the Levi company and sure enough the jeans are made someplace overseas and Levi just sticks their brand name on the jeans

Well from that point on Levi lost a customer.
I use to shop JC Penny quite often, i still do on occassion, but not on a reg basis like back in the day... I don't really wear levi much anymore, but that's really messed up that Levi is doing that, is that ALL levi's or just those sold by JC Penny?

I have to disagree....where are my Wal-Mart posts when I need them.
Wal-mart has been wonderful to my family in many ways....if I could find the posts you could just read all the cool stuff....
PK is good at finding that stuff....PK where did I put it???

Ma and I where shopping around to find a great microwave at one time and a outstanding convection oven and both where discovered to be the best value, size, and price fron sears...
WE DO NOTHING (if possible) WITH WAL (Geez I can't even say the name) as they also have done us wrong as employees...

It pays to try to keep up on reading the posts...I remembered you writing this about Walmart a while back. Thought it was a very good post about Walmart. Everyone loves to down Walmart but really now, you will still see most of the same people right there shopping in line next to you. lol
I do what I have to do in shopping for bargains and I'm going to be there in line with all my Walmart goodies if it will save me $$. I know that doesn't sound good to many but hey, until wages goes up or inflation goes down you have to shop with the good prices. .. Come to think of it, if I had a bunch of money I still would shop where I can save a few bucks. Just the way I am.
I also want to add when I was the PTO President at my kids school, Walmart helped us out with several of our big events by donating items or taking a big percent off items we needed.
This is a picture of my van from Wednesday..... A Walmart Donation
Reminds me of the years that our PTO at our school ran the GIVING TREE. We took on all the foster children in our city and gave them each a toy, a warm piece of clothing, and a treat. Tons of donations came in and we were able to meet our goal each year. Parent's would help wrap each gift and by the time we got done the van looked full like your pictures.
I remember one year my oldest daughter took on a whole family and was able to not only give them toys, clothing, and treats, but gave them groceries and a Christmas Dinner as well. And found a Santa and helpers to come to their Christmas party and hand everything from the PTO to the kids.
Sorry...this thread is suppose to be about Sears...lol.. well, I can say that I can't remember Sears ever donating anything during our time with the PTO.

I remember growing up, my mom would not buy an appliance unless it came from the Sears Store. Had to be the Sears Kenmore brand.
I still have most of my appliances from Sears. Just bought a front loading washer/dryer from the Sears Grand not to long ago.

Personally I shop where I can get the best prices just because that is how I can afford things. But I do like shopping Sears Clearance racks. I find their clothes are better made than shopping at many of the other stores. They are better fitting, and they hold up longer with repeated washings. When I need to buy a gift I rather buy from Sears, Kohl's, or Penny's or even the Boston Store before Walmart, K-Mart if it's for clothing for kids.
I remember when I use to buy for my older son and the Sears guarantee that if it wore out before he grew out of it they would exchange or I think refund the money back with receipt. That actually worked for me a few times.
