I dont down wal-marts prices & i know they do a lot for their communities etc... as a 5 year management employee of wal-mart i can say I will probably always shop there (yes you may see me in line next to you lol) however they suck when it comes to being "family oriented" as they claim to be when it comes to their employees... yeah it's great for these kids who have no family to support or benefits needed (for me & my kids insurance would have been $395/month) who can afford that on wal-mart wages? not i!, however they are cold & heartless when it comes to being considerate of their employees... I met my best friend working there, she has now been there just over 10 yrs having relocated for 6 stores in those yrs, she never realized just what *&^%$ they are until she had her son 2 yrs ago & NOW she sees just how NOT considerate they are of their employees with children. Their were some older employees going thru medical issues sometimes off 4-6 wks at a time, others with sick family & they gave them several weeks off... however let a young single mom have a ill child (even in the hospital as mine was) & they become jerks... Yeah they gave the older medical issue ridden employees off with job security, but would they hire someone to help cover their shifts or bring employees off the floor & cross train? anything to help out those who still came to work daily? NOPE & when the customers complained about long lines, less checkouts or anything at all its the customer service managers (as i was) who take the horrid abuse some customers would throw our way... it was their policy that only if it became physical would upper management step in or allowed to be called... IMO that's BS
Of course this could be depending on the store & managers policies, because i also found that company wide policies aren't recognized company wide with wal-mart & i took that to the TOP, eventually some policies had to be changed by the time several of us were done with that store.
Oh & dont get me started on their managements open door policy... OMG they are the WORST at backstabbing (any store i've worked for)! I dealt with some issues that were beyond real... from discrimination from white employees on black employees to threats of physical harm, employees suspected of theft etc... anytime you go to a manager, you can be sure that within hours you have those who were in the wrong coming to you saying management told them all & that it came from you... trust me i confronted every manager every single time & got an "oh im sorry did you not want them to know it was you?" um yeah stupid i came to you with a management complaint due to the employees feeling safer coming to me rather than being blown off by upper mngmnt AGAIN!
I left there due to a scandal that was unbelievable! Having worked at a few locations & seeing what my bf goes thru (shes looking for a way out) no one can convince me otherwise, however as a shopper, i get the best deals there & as i said may always shop there. Never again would i work there, if i ever need a second job again it wont be retail.
You only gave the good points... When I go in there is only if it is an emergency as the air to me is toxic...
Sears is a great place as cost of a couple of bucks is over weighed to the quality, and the place the product was made... Actually they where cheaper than anyone else and they have it online to send right to the door...

Wow, Latina, sorry you had such a bad experience working for them. I bet that was super stressful on you.
I don't have much choice but to shop there. We only have Shopko and Walmart in town as far as large stores go. I need to save as much as I can and shop Walmart quite a bit.

Thanks & I agree. I shop there quite a bit myself... i'm cheap, it's the only way to survive.
Shows how dominant Wal-Mart is when a thread about good things Sears is doing turns into a "Wal-Mart Sucks but they're cheap" thread.
Give Sears a try - you don't have to buy something - just give them a try, in my humble opinion.
Regards,
Keith
I buy sears if im in the mall & see they have a sale or something, usually for clothes only. i'd never buy my clothes from wal-mart... nothing against sears hun, but if i'm shopping for household or what not sears is far more expensive than wal-mart & as i said i'm cheap-cheap.
When my son was younger he was 'husky' and needed big pants with short leg length.. I ordered all his pants special made from sears & jc penny in store catalogs, expensive, but worth it & so very helpful, if i needed sears i'd use them, i dont need them & cant afford everyday shopping there as i can wally world.
When I think of quality I think of Sears, it's kind of so so now. I bought a Craftsman snow blower, had the easy turn feature, electric start and all. First year was great, no problems. Each time I use it I clean off the snow and put it back in the garage. Summer comes along and ya forget about the snow blower. Winter comes along again and I go over the blower and notice paint bubbles. Now there's spots where the paint flaked off, nothing major but it makes me think again about quality and does Sears still hold that name. Not too happy with that purchase. Seems like thinner metal is used, less quality.
I also bought a Craftsman riding lawn mower with that Hydrodrive feature. Love it, no problems. But.. bad front end design, tap a tree and the hood is toast. I seen that flaw and bought a bumper for the mower. Good thing, I let someone try it out and bang they hit a tree. People can drive a car but behind a lawn mower they go bang lol? I also wash it a few times a year and wax it, I hate rust!
Now days I look for quality over name. Sears still offers quality but do your homework first.
