Wow, you posted this a year ago and I just now read it. Sometimes it really is great when you bump up a thread.
Anyways, to answer your question....he never 'lost' out. I always made sure when he was growing up that he received birthday presents wrapped in b-day paper with a b-day card and he also had a b-day cake with candles and we all sung Happy Birthday to him. Usually we did this at noon so it was like his special time of the day.
We still give him separate presents with a cake, usually after our Christmas meal.
