The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Mausoleum of Maussollos, the Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria.
Now we also have the Seven Wonders Of The Modern World which include Chichen Itza, Christ The Redeemer Statue, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Petra, and the Taj Mahal.
Can anyone suggest what might be the 7 Wonders of Wisconsin?
What a great post dgridley , I hope more post their 7 wonders as well.
Here are my 7 but on any given day and any given time they could change. Why do ask?

LOL LOL you are correct! We were coming back from Canada and went through visited in Michigan and stopped at the Porkies a few years ago. I guess we were so close to Wisconsin I thought we made it there finally. It still is a beautiful place though.
Pets Park scarey?? I wander around there taking pics in the Fall and feel totally comfortable. We have had lots of picnics there too. What's so scary?
I know I recently heard there is a 'witch' house somewhere there from a tale of years back but never saw anything like it. And I'm the one that would 'feel' if something is 'odd' in a place. Do tell more....

76 views so far and only 12 replies? Any more suggestions?
I promise I'll have a surprise if we can come up with a consensus here..
I would much rather see the diversity of wonders in Wisconsin rather than limit to a consensus of only 7.
I can visualize a web site with an interactive map much like earth Google that contains pinpoints of interest with visitor photos, blogs and experiences of that location.

Several years back I hoped to start a website similar to what you proposed with a partner that was a webmaster of yet another website I was involved in for awhile.
Anyways, I visioned something as you described also with human interest stories of members through out the state, a section for camping and campgrounds, also daily updates and news from around the state and a forum. (dailywisconsin.com, dailywisconsin.net). It did work out since I stopped the project with the 'partner' I would have been doing this. (reasons I won't go into).
Anyways, great ideas and maybe we could someday see all of that on the bubbler.
Here's a link over to another forum topic that came to mind when reading the different places of wonder in Wisconsin. Thought everyone may enjoy checking out the other section as well.

Wow, neat way of looking at it - not trimming it too much.
That's a neat idea - kind of like that with Google Earth when you look at the notes people leave on maps.
I talked with Dave (dgridley) on the phone earlier, and he does have something very cool in mind. Very cool. Unfortunately, it's fairly ambitious just to do seven wonders, let alone the whole state. Nevertheless, I can visualize right along with you...and put it on my 'wish list' for Wisconsin...

Great minds think alike! j10asen and you have great minds ~ I love what you're describing!
For starters, though (and perhaps one day these could be incorporated into the larger visions you share), we'd love to hear the seven that come to mind for Members.
Perhaps one day that can be the seven most 'historic' towns, the seven best Wisconsin places for a beer, the seven best inland lakes, the seven best State Parks...whatever. Like pk's post including "Most Distinctive Architecture," etc. In time, those could become the basis for the larger "Grand Wonders of Wisconsin."
Ya gotta start somewhere...
So...what's your seven wonders of Wisconsin for starters?
Looks like I wasn't the first to come up with this idea.. apparently someone made a similar comparison in an article that ran in the December 28, 2006 edition of The Shepherd Express weekly news in Metro Milwaukee. You can read the article here:
How about the entire system of "Rustic Roads" in Wisconsin? When gas was much cheaper, I loved going on a nice summer Saturday morning drive down some country Rustic Roads

I like this idea of having 7 best in a category since great things can be great for different reasons and don't work as a single list.
I had to reread my list. I wonder if it would be different if I redid it today? I'd say it's pretty much the same.
